how to breakdown and load 38 caliber iver johnson pistol?

A bit dated, but I bought an Iver Johnson M-1 30 caliber for protection on my charter boat for two hundrend dollars in 1981. The seller threw in a hundred rounds or maybe two hundred. He told me how to file it down to make it fully automatic but I never did that. It saved me from pirates in a desolate part of the mid Bahamas but I had only to display it and draw down on the approaching pirates and they knew to turn away. Ran in to some trouble with a drunken passenger in the British Virgin Islands later and he threatened to report me to the Coast Guard for an unregistered gun. This forced me to a quick sale for a hundred bucks to a friendly native in the British Virgins. Sure wish I could get that gun back. If its in good condition and the barrel has not been cut or the stock shortened, it worth between 150 and 300. Obviously the high side would be a gun in the 90% range in terms of metal and wood condition and finish.

its a raher cheap but somewhat reliable production model revolver either .22 (9shot) .32sw or .38sw 5 shot, they have basically no collectors value and in working condition worth anywhere from 50 to 150 depending on condition.

If it's the Iver Johnson M1 Carbine, they were manufactured from the mid 1960's through the mid 70's. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Some of the early Iver Johnson M1 carbines were made of surplus G I parts. So some if not all parts interchange. The is true of the early M1 carbines made by Plainfield. Hope this helps. Keith

Yes....I own one and love it. Breach break and double action. It was a cheap gun used for concealed carry as a boot gun or pocket carry.

The m1941 Johnson (JSAR) was not produced by Iver Johnson. It was produced by Melvin Johnson as a military firearm. It lost out to the M1 Garand in trials. About 24000 were made. Many of these were remade by a company called Winfield Arms.

A Johnson in military trim and very good condition could fetch up to 7000 dollars. Most are sold for much less. A winfield Arms Sporter could get from 2500 to 5000 depending on condition. These are the numbers I have seen online.

Always depends on condition! First ones made had round barrels(1887), later ones had flats. Some had a loading gate, most did not. The loading gate model cost extra. I've paid anywhere from $50 for one in fair condition to $250 for one in excellent condition still in the box.

Serial numbers on rifles and shotguns were not required by law until the 1968 Gun Control Act. I have a few dozen in my collection that have never HAD a serial number- and yes, it is legal.
