What year were the I.J. Double Action Model 1900 .32 made?

I found this answer at http://www.thefirearmsforum.com/showthread.php?t=47607

Quoting the author:

the i j model 1900 was manufactured between 1900 and 1941. there were three frame sizes and four calibers offered; small frame 22 rimfire 7 shot, medium frame 5 shot 32 S&W or 32 rimfire and large frame 32 S&W long 6 shot and 38 S&W 5 shot. most have a 2 to 2 1/2 inch barrel (depending on frame size) but 4 and 6 inch barrels were also available.

the medium frame 32 are most often seen in centerfire version and the 32 rimfires a considered rare. check the hammer if the firing pin is at the top and retangluar in shape it is a rimfire, if the firing pin is lower down on the hammer and conical it is a centerfire.

the main serial number location is on the left side of the grip frame under the grips. if this is the number you give (without letter code) then the manufactured date of this revolver is 1900. this would make this revolver a black powder model and not safe with modern ammo. however the 32 caliber model was the most popular of the model 1900's and there were two letter code used during the time of thieir manufacture. no letter code was used between 1900-1908, letter code E was used between 1909 and 1917 and letter code B was used between 1918 and 1941. (remember letter codes will only be found on the left side of the grip frame under the grips). other possible dates are, serial number E2295=1909 approx. 12,000 manufactured, serlal number B2295=1919 with 7,200 manufactured. these two date are within the smokeless powder era and if in good shooting condition should be ok with modern ammo. there were a total of 215,700 medium frame 32 caliber model 1900 manufactured between 1900 and 1941.

How can i find my pistol with Gun serial?

First you have to know if you have a pistol or a revolver, the mere looking at those two terms gives you a fast idea of the difference. It's also a very important legal distinction. with a pistol the barrel and the chamber are one piece. Most pistols also have a receiver, where you place the cartridge and when the receiver closes it pushes the cartridge into the chamber. these both are mounted on the frame. Some have an interchangeable receiver or barrel. You will always have the serial number on the frame, sometimes on the barrel and the receiver. With a revolver your barrel might be a separate piece from the frame. some really cheap ones don't have that feature. Again the serial number WILL be on the frame. Unless it was illegally produced, or illegally imported, OR, the number was filed off. Some people think they're being smart by doing that, all that really does is alert any cop who finds the gun that it's an illegal piece. Since the number is stamped into the metal, it creates stress and compresses the steel crystals all the way through the area of steel where they are. The police investigative technique for finding a 'missing' number is to wrap the gun in wire, to magnetize it, and dip it in a solution with suspended rust, iron oxide, in it. the magnetized area of the gun is right where the stress was placed by stamping the number in. so that's where the rust particles congregate. the cops can then see the number more easily than if it had never been filed off. The number should be right where the manufacturer's name is stamped.

What is the value of a Iver Johnson cadet model 55-SA?

Hi what is the price on a Iver Johnson cadet 38cal 55-SA. How old is this gun and the last year it was made. How do i get parts for this. Thank You for your time.

This is a very solid gun popular in the past with police and people who needed a concealable dependable pistol. In decent shape these sell for 150.00 to 165.00.

Last made around the year 1978 most gun smiths will have parts or access to them. Only drawback is that s&w 38 ammo is sometimes hard to find and you have to order it in from a online ammo dealer. When you find some order multiple boxes. Overall a great little gun. Shoots straight low recoil but loud

easy to clean and load in a hurry.

What is the value of an Iver Johnson 44 gauge shot gun?

Although most shotgun bores are measured by "gauge", this one is actually a 44 caliber (44/100 of an inch), and was made for a shotshell version of the Winchester 44-40 cartridge. This ammunition is no longer available (well, maybe from a specialty manufacturer at a high price), so it has NO value as a working shotgun. IJ shotguns are not widely collected, but there is some collector interest in these old guns. I'd say it could possibly bring $200 in excellent condition, or $100-$150 in average condition.

Did Iver Johnson ever stamp his initials on the firearms he assemabled himself?

You will need to do some research into the company lore to find that out although it seems unlikely. I just bought an Iver Johnson, and I find no seriel number. Instead, I find T F X where the number should be on the barrel and body.Strictly speculation, but I'm guessing that could be where the initials idea came from.l
