The John Wayne Medal was authorized by the U.S. Congress on May 23, 1979. Only one solid gold medal was made and it was presented to the family of John Wayne in 1980. The medal sold to the public was produced in bronze. If you have one dated 1976 or made of gold it is not a U.S. Mint issued coin. The gold versions of the John Wayne Medal are bronze medals which have been plated by a private company and have whatever value you may place upon them. Bronze versions currently sell for $3 to $7. February 16, 2010.

John Wayne was and still is an American legend and the biggest movie star of all time. His career in films spanned 50 years with over 200 films to his credit. Born Marion Michael Morrison, on May 26, 1907, in Winterset, Iowa. Known for his patriotism and outspoken views, mostly on politics, Wayne never backed down if he thought he was right. Wayne won his only Oscar in 1969 for True Grit. Married three times and the father of seven children, Wayne died of cancer in June 1979 at the age of 72.

That was a POW/MIA bracelett from the Viet Nam war. Those braceletts had the name of one POW/MIA that had not made it home. Years after the end of the war the government finally made some effort to find some of those soldiers and get them back home to their families. The braceletts raised money and awareness about their plight. It's not at all surprising that Wayne wore the band. He supported the war and the men that fought it.

Yes, John Wayne ( the Actor known for his Westerns and War movies ) started out as a stunt rider in the late 1920s through early to mid 1930s.

Not in the western sense. In War ( twentieth century , that is modern, automatic pistols, not six-guns, maybe counterspies , privateer seamen ( modern day pirates, of a sort) but not Gangsters. Wayne was normally a Good Guy at Arms!

John Wayne loved the Pacific Northwest and had many friends in the area. His yacht 'Wild Goose' was purchased from a Wayne friend lumber tycoon May Wyman of Seattle for $110,000. He fished, had friends and enjoyed cruising Northwest waters.

For years after Wayne's 1979 death, the Goose went into slow decline unil 1991 when Deil Gustafson of Newport Beach, CA, bought the Goose and restored her to her present luxurious state. Gustafson has retained many John Wayne memorabilia aboard the Goose as a tribute to her former famous owner. Included are some paintings by Wayne's widow Pilar. The Goose is available for charter at Urban Desire Cruises.
