Thanks to Antique Roadshow I have an answer. Snatched from obscurity, an old USC college yearbook was found with a school photo of MMM before he was John Wayne. The price range was $3000 to $4000.

I think he had cancer but not sure what kind. I think he had a drinking problem in life and may have had a hard time living in the shadow of his brother.
