How do mammal kidneys differ from the kidneys of other vertebrates?
Only mammalian kidneys have a renal pelvis (dilated beginning of the ureter) and renal pyramids (8 to 18 cone-shaped tissues in the renal medulla). The renal medulla (the innermost part of the kidney), and the renal cortex (surrounds the renal medulla) are more distinguishable in mammals than in other vertebrates.
The same thing any animals' kidneys do. They filter out impurities from the blood so they can be excreted. More importantly in fish, the kidneys are a major organ to help maintain osmotic balance with their environment. In freshwater fish, they retain salts in the blood of the fish (since the fish is hyperosmotic to its environment, the salts want to diffuse out, and lots of water wants to move into the fish) while they are constantly urinating because of the net movement of water into the fish. In SW fish, the kidneys help move OUT extra salts taken in when the fish drinks seawater, because the salts want in and the water wants out (the fish is hypo osmotic to the seawater).
Why would you need a nephrostomy if your kidneys are working normal even if you have kidney cancer?
Once reason could be a hole in your ureter.
If you have a hole in your ureter (whether it's by a medical mistake or birth defect..etc), the urine would leak out into your pelvis area (obviously not a good thing). So the doctors would put in a nephrostomy to reroute the urine, meanwhile they could deal with the ureter hole issue and give it time to heal. Until then the bag stays and they can test it in a few weeks by adding a contrast agent up into the ureter while performing fluoroscopy to see if there's any leakage or if it's fully healed.

What percentage of bodyfat is normal for a pro bodybuilder?
Most pro bodybuilders on stage have a "reported" bodyfat of anywhere from 3-5% Keep in mind you naturally store 2.5% of your body fat through out the brain so I think that these numbers may be a little exagerrated but I think some of them probbaly do get as low as 4.5% body fat for a show. The lowest I've ever gotten for a show was 5.9% They don't maintain that all the time though, the other times of the year that they aren't dieting for a show typically you can find most dedicated bodybuilders around 8-11 in the off season. Some guys like to really bulk up and may exceed that in an effort to put on weight and get stronger.
Kidney enzymes are enzymes specific to the kidney.
Enzymes are protein molecules that speed up (or catalyze) chemical reactions in the body. These chemical reactions serve a wide variety of functions, many involving the production of special molecules in the body. Some of these molecules are produces relatively exclusively by the kidney. To limit the production of these molecules to the kidney requires that only the kidney contains the necessary enzymes needed to produce these molecules. These enzymes would logically be called kidney enzymes.
An example of a molecule produced relatively exclusively by the kidney is calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D3. Calcitriol is produced through a chemical reaction catalyzed by the kidney enzyme 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 1-α-hydroxylase (also called 1α-hydroxylase).
One enzyme that is made by the kidneys is renin. It is part of the renin-angiotensin mechanism that helps regulate blood pressure.
How efficient is a kidney dialysis machine in comparison to a healthy kidney?
Depends which machine, hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis machine. Both are efficient and u can live long, but definitely not as much as you could with a healthy kidney. Dialysis machines purify you're blood but they don't purify it always well enough and they purify blood elements that they should not purify also. So its best to be healthy :)
No problems; don't worry. If it's comfortable, it's fine.
