The only reasons would be that the laptop is small and portable. This however has many implictaions. You can access files/programs/games, possibly the internet from almost anywhere. If you want to show other people something you can bring them your laptop, rather then bring them to your computer. A laptop can be used in a comfortable place eg bed, lounge chair ect. It also would free space where your desktop wouldve been, allowing a less clutered workspace.

To connect to the internet via wifi you will need:

A wifi enabled laptop/pc OR a wifi card/adapter.

A wifi router/network with the internet connection connected to it.

As long as your router is set-up correctly and your laptop is fairly new you shouldn't have any trouble connecting to the internet.

Lithium-ion Battery:

If you are using a laptop with a Lithium-ion battery (most newer laptops), it should give you between 300-500 charge/discharge cycles. This type of battery doesn't like full discharges and should be avoided when-ever possible.

The instructions should be in your manual if you have it but commonly there is a function key somewhere that you hit and hold down and then you would hit a corresponding function key (usually one of the number keys) that may have a picture of a circle with lines radiating out. kinda like a light bulb with arrows up and down. This will allow you to brighten/darken the screen. Yes, you can change the setting to make your computer NOT DIM while running on battery power.

1. click on start

2. in "search box" type this-- power options. You should now see this option

appear with other items that your search has found. You will click on the that

option (power options) and this will take you to where you can change the

power plan for running your computer on battery power.

3. (My power plan is set on HP Recommended but which ever your plan is set on

you can still change the laptop setting to NOT DIM while operating on battery

power.) Look to the right of your power plan and you will see Change Plan

Settings. Click on Change Plan Settings.

4. You will see Dim The Display. This is where you can make choices for dimming

or not dimming the display for "on battery" or "plugged in." Click on drop

down arrow and choose the NEVER setting. (I have chosen NEVER for both

"on battery" and "plugged in."

Notice that from here you can change the setting for the brightness of your display, set when to turn off the display and set when to put your computer to sleep for both when your computer is running off the battery or when it is plugged in.

To find this out, check websites such as Amazon, PC World, Comet etc., or put the Laptop name into Google, and a short list of prices for the product should be displayed.
