Could you put turps on your leather jacket to remove paint?
Definitely not recommended! If it is a hard leather with almost a waxy finish the turps will buckle the material and fade it, and soft leather will probably disintergrate. I've found (after leaving motorcycle leathers in the garage) that paint on leather is a killer. I found that by scratching off most of the paint with a new toothbrush and applying baby shampoo over night (just wipe of with wam water) will help lift most if not all paint off and if that fails apply a mild sugar soap (available from most hardware stores) will get the toughest of stains off but causes mild fading. Good luck!

Why leather is better than polyurathane leather?
Full grain leather is the highest quality leather that you can get and is made from a single piece of cowhide that has not been sanded or split. However polyurethane leather, also called "bicast" leather is made from low grade leather split leather, up to 4 pieces of low grade leather may be split from one single cow hide. It is often much thinner and less durable than real leather because it is has been split and then coated with polyurethane(plastic) on top and often stamped with a leather-like grain. True leather will last a lot longer than bicast leather. Real leather will become softer and develope a patina over time whereas the polyurethane coating on bicast leather may split or peel after just a few years.

There are different categories of the term 'used', it might be something that has been in the attic for years, it might be something from a famous movie which can cost $$$, or it might be 'upcycled'. Can shoe heels be made out of leather?
Yes. Many high end shoe makers use stacked leather heels for their shoes. Stacked leather heels are made out of layers of leather placed on top of each other. This technique gives stacked heeled shoes their distinct stripe appearance because of the visible horizontal layers of leather in the heel. Fine shoes can also have a leather sole.
Cheap shoes also may try to replicate that "striped" look by molding lines into the (usually plastic or rubber) heel.
