Actually it was Leif's dad who discovered Greenland. Leif discovered North America, though really he was following a course set by an Icelander. Leif did create a settlement in North America so many say he discovered it. After all the first guy felt it was too risky to go ashore, so he was just the first recorded European to see North America, not really the same as landing and "discovering".

He also discovered a stranded ship and rescued its crew of 14 people.

There are two versions. In the first, he was already aware of North America's existence, because it had been spotted years before by a man named Bjarni Herjolfs. In the second, he was sailing for Greenland, but sailed too far south, and ended up in North America.

It is unknown when or where he died, let alone where he was buried.

When Columbus found America it had a much greater impact and he became much more popular because he thought he had found Asia. Also, he stayed longer and talked to the Natives.
