No the only time that a system of equations would have no solutions is when the two equations have the same slope but different y-intercepts which would mean that they are parallel lines. However, if they have different slopes and different y-intercepts than the solution would be where the two lines intersect.

Suppose you want to divide x by y

Find log(x) and log(y) to any base b (usually 10 or e)

Calculate z = log(x) - log(y)

Look up the antilog of z (or find the number whose log is z).

x/y = antilog(z)

If "a" is negative then the graph is a cap. Find the x intercepts. Average the two x intercepts and substitute that into the equation it will give you the y.
