Lunar Phases

Because those are the eight points and shapes, during the constantly changing

appearance of the moon, to which we have given names. If you watch the edge

of the bright portion of the moon for a while through a small telescope, you'll see

that it's moving continuously, and so the actual apparent shape of the moon is

changing continuously ... literally minute to minute.

The next moon phase after the third quarter moon is the waning crescent moon. It is characterized by a decreasing illuminated portion of the moon visible from Earth.

To set the moon phase on a grandfather clock, you typically need to adjust the hand on the moon phase dial using the gears on the back of the clock. Most grandfather clocks have a small wheel or dial for adjusting the moon phase hand. Rotate the wheel or dial one way or the other to align the moon phase correctly with the current phase.

During the new moon phase, the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, so the side of the moon facing Earth is not illuminated by the sun. This causes the moon to blend in with the bright daytime sky and is not visible to us.

The moon phase the is usually found is the waxing crescent moon. This appears above the western horizon a little after sunset.

He looked at the waxing gibbous moon and knew that in a few nights the moon would be full.

On Thursday the 3rd Feb 2011 it was a full Moon. On Friday the 11th Feb 2011 it will be a half Moon. Therefore on Saturday 5th Feb 2011 it was a waning Moon between full and half.

The Gibbous Moon phase is characterized by the Moon being more than half but less than fully lit. It marks the period between the first quarter and full moon, symbolizing growth, progress, and refinement. It's a time for building momentum, fine-tuning plans, and making adjustments towards reaching your goals.

Whenever you see the moon, its shape is described

by one of the names given to the phases.

Solar eclipses can only occur at the new moon, while all lunar eclipses happen at the full moon.

The moon is non-luminous and it reflects its light from the sun. When the Earth moves between the Moon and the sun the moon has nowhere to get light to reflect off of because of the earth's shadow so it becomes dark, and that's when we have a Lunar Eclipse.

To set a Movado moon phase watch, gently pull out the crown to the furthest position and turn it clockwise to advance the moon phase indicator to the appropriate position. Once set, press the crown back in to secure the settings. Be careful not to adjust the time in the process.

The semi-circle shape can be the 1st or 3rd quarter.

Perhaps you would want to double check, but I believe that if the "flat" side of the shape is facing to the left, that is the 1st quarter; to the right - 3rd quarter.

The full moon. Earth is ALMOST directly between the sun and moon, so the sun is "behind" us when we look at the moon. That is why the moon appears entirely lit to us, and is considered "full". If Earth IS directly between the sun and moon, which does not happen during most full moons, then there is a lunar eclipse.

There are eight main moon phases: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Third Quarter, and Waning Crescent.

The New Moon can't be seen at any time of day.

In addition, the first quarter moon is just rising at noon, and the third quarter moon

is just setting at noon. So practically everything between first quarter and third quarter

is below the horizon at noon, and not visible.

The terminator appears as a darkened crescent. As the Moon "wanes," the crescent straightens until at Last Quarter it becomes a straight line from pole to pole. Then, as the Moon continues to wane, the terminator becomes more and more curved, but in the opposite direction.

The "waning gibbous" phase lasts from 2 days after the full to 6 days after the full.

The moon is more or less in between the earth and the sun. now normally this doesn't make much sense (cause we'd see the sun like in an eclipse) but in this case the moon is not completely lined up and the sun is not above the horizon. this situation occurs much more often than an ecclipse because it's alot easier for the moon and the sun to be just a few degrees off than it is for the moon to be right in front of the sun.

The moon phase starts as New Moon where the moon is not visible, then progresses to Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Third Quarter, and finally Waning Crescent before repeating the cycle.

The full moon phase comes after the first quarter moon. The full moon appears as a complete circle in the sky, with the sun illuminating the entire side facing Earth.

Moon phase can impact shrimp behavior and activity levels. During a full moon, shrimp may be more active and feed more often, while during a new moon they may be less active. The changing light levels can also affect their mating and reproductive cycles.

On November 18, 2010, the moon phase was a Waxing Gibbous, where more than half of the moon is illuminated but less than a full moon.
