Well, the Marlin 336 was not made in 1870. The serial number may be found under the lever on the lower tang of the reciever. On newer rifles, it is on the upper tang to the rear of the hammer.

Not usually. The bore diameter of a .177 cal. is smaller. If the rod did fit the bore, the brush or jag wouldn't.

It's a 1955 since it has the 'N' prefix. I would guess that you could get $350 for it in good shape at auction. But I'm just guessing. I have a 1956 model with the 'P' prefix.
