sounds like the valve at the control lever is leaking, or the valve is sticking in the last position selected. look closely where the lever goes into the valve block assembly to see if the valve is sticking... if it is not then its bypassing internally and will need to be taken apart and have the seals replaced.

On my 1980 245 massey I use TDH, avaiable at Wallmart in 5 gal pails for under 50 dollars, you'd pay more at NAP etc.

Since the 1977 model serial numbers start at: 9A254045, and the 1978 model numbers start at: 9A276935, my best guess would be that your MF-285 is a 1977 model.

first your two roll in their compartment,run under the little plate before exiting and then going thru the two tension aid springs and then both thru the 1st porcelain,then divide for each porcelain on needle and go tie at base of needle and then engage manually for tiyng knot and then rotate whole system by hand by turning the flywheel.

Gidday, I am self-taught on the 503, but after threading the needle, I pass the twine straight up through the gap in the knotting mechanism, against the thingy with the multiple serrated discs, then tie it back to the bale density adjuster at the back. After the first bale it will cut the twine then you can remove the remaining bit of twine with the knot you tied.

Open the mill and remove and replace the screen. You shouldn't need any tools as the mill lid is held in place by a couple of t-bolts - one on each side.

1. undo the bleed valve on top of the sediment bowl, and pump the primer 10 times

then close the valve.

2. open the bleed valve on the 1rst fuel filter, (top valve) repeat pumping. close valve.

do the same to the bottom valve on the 1rst filter.

3. do the same to the secondary filter.

4. open the valve on the fuel pump(under the injector lines) pump and close it

5. do the same to the bottom valve.

6. if you have four injector fuel lines(four cylinder) undo two lines at a time and turn the key until straight diesel comes out, then reattach line. repeat with other two. then start the tractor.

if it doesn't work, you may have more air in the lines or another problem.

for a perkins 3 cyl gas engine it is 6qts w/o filter change and 6.5 qts with oil filter change
