What is the largest allowable minor diameter for an M6x1.0 screw thread?

the minor diameter should be between 4.917mm and 5.153 mm, so the largest allowable size is 5.153mm

What is Gyroscopic effect on aeroplane?

Gyroscope (mechanism) is used to determine the effect of a turn taken by an aeroplane. In a short let me describe them,

1. If the rotation of a propeller/ rotor is in CLOCKWISE when viewed from REAR/ BACK SIDE and the aeroplane takes a LEFT TURN, then reactive gyroscopic couple (which is equal in magnitude and opposite in direction of active gyroscopic couple) will tend to RAISE THE NOSE and DIP THE TAIL.

2. If the above similar conditions are considered when the plane is taking a RIGHT TURN, then the reactive gyroscopic couple will tend to RAISE THE TAIL & DIP THE NOSE.

3. If the rotation of a propeller is in ANTI-CLOCKWISE DIRECTION when viewed from REAR of the aeroplane and the plane takes a LEFT TURN, the reactive gyroscopic couple tend to RAISE THE TAIL & DIP THE NOSE.

4. If we consider the similar conditions of (3), and a plane takes a RIGHT TURN, then the reactive gyroscopic couple tends to RAISE THE NOSE & DIP THE TAIL.

To remember it easily, you can use RIGHT HAND SCREW RULE.

What is the effect of boron content on steel?

A small amount of boron (~0.1%) will make steel very very hard. So hard in fact that it can be used effectively in cutting tools or in applications where durability/long life are required. However, this alloy is quite susceptible to temperature change and so shouldn't be used in hot applications.

What is critical velocity in fluid flow?

The flow of a liquid remains steady or orderly only so long as its velocity does not exceed a certain limiting value for it, called critical velocity.

Why water drops fall from silencer of car?

The silencer is very sad and the water drops are its tears.

What is stylus pressure?

According to my understanding it is the pressure that gets applied on the measured body by the instrument itself.

For excample: If u are measuring a cube with a vernier caliper then there is a chance that a error may occur due to the pressure applied by the teeth of vernier caliper while tightening it..

Why do you not use second angle projection and fourth angle projection?

Method of Projections tell us the positions of the views where they are projecting on the Planes. Consider 1st Angle of projection, All the views from a particular direction are projected on the opposite side, while in 3rd Angle of projection, All the views from a particular direction are projected on the same side. Take a case of 2nd Angle of Projections( means object lies in 2nd Quadrant) since the image is to be formed on the planes only that is why we have to keep right side view on the same side from viewing while top view on the opposite side from viewing. This contradicts view placement( i.e. once you are placing on same side and once on Opposite). Same is applicable in 4th Angle of Projection also.

What is the process of joining metal parts by fusion?

1. _________ is the process of joining metal parts of fusion. The process of joining metal parts by fusion is known as arc welding.

What do mean by flux and slag?

In (SMAW) Shielded Metal Arc Welding 'stick welding':

Flux is the substance added to to molten metals to bond with impurities that can be readily removed.

Slag is the waste material which is removed.

What is the classification of cast iron?

  • Grey cast iron
  • White cast iron
  • Malleable cast iron
  • Ductile cast iron

How much quantity of water can deliver by a 5 hp pump in a hour?

Pumps and discharge

One HP Pumpset gives a discharge of about 2200 gallons per hour.

Discharge rates according to the size of pumpsets:

1 HP (1"X 1", 1.5" X 1.5") : 2000 - 3000 gph

1.5 HP (1.5" X 1", 2"X1.5") : 3000 - 4000 gph

2 HP (2"X2", 2.5" x 2", 3X3.5) : 5000 - 6000 gph

3 HP (2.5" X 2". 3" X 2.5") : 6000 - 7000 gph

5 HP (4" X 3". 3" x 2.5".2.5 X 2) : 1000 - 12000 gph.

While erecting a pump

1. Maximum suction head shall not exceed 7 meter (20 ft). Suction head is measured from water surface of source to pump level vertically.

2. Suction pipe shall be erected vertically, it shall never be allowed in a slanting position.

3. There shall not be any leak on the suction side.

4. Foot valve must rest atleast one metre above the water bed. If foot valve touches ground, it will suck dirt and sand, and pumping to avoid frictional loss.

5. Polythene pipes are preferable to avoid frictional loss.

6. Usually centrifugal pumps are used where suction is less than 7 m. A single stage pump is used where total head (suction head + delivery head) is not more than 40 ft (13 ms). Stage pump @ 1 stage for every 40 ft. may be used. Thus for 120 ft. total head, a three stage pump shall be used.

7. Where suction head is more than 20 ft. Ejecto pumps (jet pumps) shall be used. A jet pump will pump water from wells upto 100ft deep.

8. Single phase pumpsets are available upto 1.5 HP. Above 2 HP. only three phase pump sets are available. So small farmers having an area upto 3 acres may go for single phase pumpsets rather than 3 phase to avoid 3 phase electric connection which may not be readily available.

Commanding potential of pumpsets

1 HP upto 2 acres

2 HP upto 4.4 acres

3 HP upto 5 acres

Area and depth of irrigation

A 5 HP pumpset gives an approximate discharge of 11000 gph. If this pump is worked for 10 hours it gives a discharge of 110000 gallons of water approximately. If the area of the farm is 5 acreas the depth of water will be 110000/22000 which is 5 inches. (22000 gallons = 1 inch in 1 acre).

Calculation bits

1 cubic metre of water weights : 1 tonne or 1 MG

1 cubic metre per second : 1 cusec.

1 atm. at sea level : 10 metre column of water

1 HP : 75 kg m s-1, 746 watts

1 cm column of water of height 10 m exerts a pressure of 1 kg/cm2

Is cold rolled mild steel magnetic?

Yes, all steels are magnetic. The difference is in the material being a "soft" or a "hard" magnetic material.

A cold rolled mild steel, such as 1018 steel, is considered a "soft" magnetic material.

I recommend reading "ASM Ready Reference: Electrical and Magnetic Properties of Metals" by Charles Moosbrugger and Fran Cverna for reference details and information. Particularly the brief section of Chapter 7 would be most helpful to you, with values in Chapter 8.

What is the calibration curve of orifice meter?

The calibration curve for an orifice meter will depend on the size of the orifice, the size of the pipe and the pressure loss over the meter. Typical calibration curves have pressure (or head) loss on the vertical (y) axis and flow rate on the horizontal (x) axis.

Can stress exists without strain and vice versa. eg a heated bar held rigidly at both ends has no strain but there is stress?

Wherever there is stress there is strain.

In the example you noted, if heated bar expands freely without one end constained it changes its strain without stress; that strain is called eigenstrain.

If the same bar is held rigidly then the eigenstrain resisted and you get stress and strain. So stress cannot exist without strain; but strain can exist without stress if it is eigenstrain.

What do you mean by minimum tensile strength?

Tensile strength is determined from testing a large number of samples. Some will fail higher or lower than others, and an average strength is determined. Minimum tensile strength is usually calculated from statistics using a Weibull probability analysis. In this case the minimum tensile strength usually is reported as the Weibull A value, which is the value at which 99% will survive with 95% confidence. Weibull B, usually based on fewer samples, is the minimum value determined to survive with 90% reliability and 95 % confidence.
