What is incremental positioning in cnc machining?
A machine can measure either from the zero point, or from the last position that was. For example, when you say "X10", you mean 10mm from the zero point of the axis X, or you may mean 10mm further than the last position the machine was on the X axis. The way of measuring is decided from the G codes G90 and G91. Running the G90 command, the machine will start to measure using absolute coordinates (measuring from the zero point of the axis) and running the G91 command will set the machine into "incremental measuring".
For making matters more clear, see the following two examples. They generate both exactly the same thing, a rectangle as shown in file p7.jpg. The first code example uses absolute measurements and the second uses incremental measurements. At this point it should be said that almost all machines measures by default using G90 (absolute coordinates). For the following example, we suppose that somehow, the machines start from point 10,10 and not 0,0

Do you use HHV or LHV for gas turbine efficiency calculation?
Gas turbine manufacturers generally state the efficiency of their turbines using LHV. However, natural gas in the U.S. is bought and sold on an HHV basis, so be careful that you don't mix units. Otherwise, you will buy a gas turbine that is too small for your anticipated needs.
How can we calculate the weight of iron plates?
If actually weighing the plates is impractical, you could try hanging the plates from a spring, and testing to find the spring's k value, and recording the displacement of the object while hanging from the spring, and use that to calculate the force on the plate, which equals mg.
if the density is known, you could immerse the plates in something to find their volume and then calculate their weight from that.
or, you could try and pull them with a force meter, taking two data points so that you can solve for the both the friction coefficient and weight.
Why does a long spanner make it easier to loosen a stuck nut than a short spanner?
This answer is based on simple mechanics. A spanner is a tool which you use to apply a twisting force on a nut. This twisting force is called a Moment.
The equation for a moment: moment = force x distance of application
As the force given by your arms will not increase just by using a bigger spanner, the size of the moment is directly related to the distance away from the nut the force is applied.
So with a short spanner, say 30cm (0.3 metres) long and a typical force from your arm of about 100N (about 10kg) the moment will be:
Moment = 100 x 0.3 = 30 Nm
Now if a bigger spanner is used, say 50 cm (0.5 metres) long the moment is:
Moment = 100 x 0.5 = 50 Nm
So you can see if you use a bigger spanner, you are putting a larger twisting force upon the nut, so it it easier to loosen.
What is the meaning of grade cf8 in valve?
It means that the material of the Valve has been up to the ASTM Casting Specification ASTM A351 Grade CF8.
Used for corrosive or extremely high temperature Non Corrosive services.
Why is a pair of scissors a compound machine?
Scissors a compound machine because it's more than one simple machine.the handle is a lever and the blade is a wedge.
What is the necessary of compounding in turbines?
compounding of turbines is necessary to make the turbines practically controllable. If compounding is not done the size of the turbine will be huge.Hence by pressure &velocity compounding the turbine becomes small in size &its velocity is also becomes controllable.
Why is silver used for making contact points in electric switches?
A: Because it is a very good conductor has many electrons 27 if I can remember correctly. There is a draw back to using silver that is because has the tendency to oxidize with oxygen as tarnish which occasionally must be eliminated to provide a good connection
Scoop coupling is nothing but a fluid coupling works based on the hydro dynamic principle.
Scooping is the collecting the oil from the working chamber(space between pump wheel and turbine wheel) which will effects the transmission.
What filler metal do you use to weld 1018?

What is drop weight tear test?
The Drop Weight Tear Test (DWTT) is a test used to determine the fracture properties of steel at certain temperatures, and also to determine the temperature at which a steel transitions from ductile to brittle fractures. The test is performed by dropping a weighted hammer on to a full-thickness standard sized (usually 12" by 3") and notched sample, causing the sample to fracture ("tear") completely through the middle. The fractured surface is then observed and measured to determine what percentage of the "torn" area is ductile fracture. Ductile fractures are desired because they mitigate how fast and far fractures travel through the steel. The temperature at which this test is performed is important because steel becomes more likely to experience brittle fracture (which is not desired) at lower temperatures.
The advantage of this test is that it can be used on full-thickness specimens, providing a more accurate demonstration of how the steel would fracture in a real application. This test is required by API standards for certain sizes and grades of steel line pipe for oil, gas, and petroleum products, to demonstrate that the pipe can experience ductile fracture at reasonably low temperatures.

Why boiler drum vents close at 2 kg pressure while strting?
in 2kg we get proper venting of unsoluble gases as well as air and ultimate answer is it is easy to operate at 2kg.if we operate at much pressure it is difficult and steam venting is more
What is the fracture toughness of mild steel?
The fracture toughness, or the property that describes the ability of a material containing a crack to resist fracture, of mild steel is around 50 K (where 'K' is the stress intensity factor).
Why the tube of bourdon pressure gauge is elliptical?
the tube is elliptical because this is all part of the design which makes it elastic and tensile .
as the tube is pressurised from within, this tends to make it uncoil and move in an outward direction , which causes a small movement within its quadrant gear and results in a pointer moving across a scale .
as the pressure within is reduced the tube tends to return to its previous shape and coil back towards the centre of the gauge .
What is Gramophone finish of flange face?
Gramophone Finish, is a Spiral Groove across the Face of the Flange. Easy to Fabricate on a Lathe.
Provides a Good Surface for the Gasket to Mate with.
What is difference between limit of proportionality and tensile strength?
The proportional limit is the stress value at which the stress is no longer linear with strain. After that, the material will begin to yield and become non-linear, or plastic, and then it will fail at a higher value called the tensile strength. For most metals, the proportional limit is well below the tensile strength; for example annealed stainless steel has a proportional limit near 30 ksi and tensile strength of 80 ksi; aluminum has a proportional limit of 35 ksi and tensile strength of 42 ksi.
What is proof Stress for Steel?
proof stress can be found by referring to the stress/strain curve at the point where strain is = 0.2% original volume (the material has grown 0.2% in volume)
proof stress will be given as a measurement of energy (MPa,KPa etc.)
as it specifically refers to the amount of energy required to stress the material to 0.2% its original volume.
What are limitations in Rockwell hardness test?
Limitations:
1. Depth of penetration should not exceed 1/8˝ of thickness of material.
2. No test should be performed near closer to the edge of the specimen.
3. All the locations for testing the specimen should be evenly distributed over the phase of material.
