Metric System

The metric system is an international basis of measurement based on a decimal system. It uses standard base units to name larger and smaller units.

Is milligram the best measurement for grain of sand?

No, milligrams are usually too small to accurately measure the weight of a single grain of sand. It would be better to use a more precise unit such as micrograms or nanograms for such small measurements.

How many 4.32 kilogram in gram?

There are 1000 grams in a kilogram. Therefore there are 4.56 * 1000 grams in 4.56 Kg.

As this is your schoolwork, I will leave you to work out the sums for the answer.

What makes the metrics system such an efficient system of measure?

It works off of a base unit of 10 and multiples of such. Making it easier to divide and multiply and work with than the American standard which works off of a different number. (I think it's 4 or 12?)

What is 2000 g kg?

2000 g = 2 kg

To convert from g to kg, divide by 1000.

When working in a horizontal laminar air flow hood you must work at least how many inches in from the outside edge of the work surface?

When working in a horizontal laminar flow hood, you should work at least 6 inches in from the outside edge of the work surface. This is to ensure that the laminar airflow remains undisturbed and effective in maintaining a clean work environment for your experiments.

Why does the decimal moves when you are converting in the metric system?

Because conversion in the decimal system is based on multiplication (or division) by powers of ten. Each multiplication by ten is equivalent to moving the decimal point one place to the right.

What is 3350 kg into pounds?

It is 7385.477 lbs (approx.). Kilogram is the SI unit of mass and pound is an imperial unit of mass. To convert from kg to pound, multiply the kg unit by 2.20462.

Tonne and ton?

A tonne is the same thing as a metric ton.

A tonne is a unit of mass. 1 tonne = 1000 Kg.

There are also 2 other types of tons:

1 British ton = 1016.047 kg

This is rarely used since the UK went metric, and is nearly the same as a metric ton.

1 US ton = 907.1847 kg

Why do you think the US has resisted the adoption of the metric system and do you think we should convert to it?

The children of the '70's know this was tried, actually anyone who was school age or able to drive a car then knows it. The problem was that it was a tiered attempt; changes were overlaid on the existing imperial system, and no one needed to change. Distance on highway signs were shown in kilometers as well as miles, speed limits were posted in KPH as well as MPH. Had the federal government instead done a dump transition, that is switched everything over to metric, everyone would have adjusted in a couple months and we would be on the same system as most of the rest of the world.

In short, it has never been made necessary for Americans to switch, and we so easily assimilate elements from other cultures (look at the bolts and nuts on any "American" made auto--if you don't have metric and SAE wrenches, you aren't going to be able to do much).

Should we switch? Two thoughts here: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and if we hope to continue competing on a world stage, we should probably consider making the change.

How many inches in a Kilofoot?

Ever since the kilofoot was standardised to be exactly 1/5 mile, there are actually 1056 feet in 1 kilofoot. This is similar to the kilobyte standard, where there are 1024 bytes in 1 kb. If it is necessary to differentiate between them, the upper-case K should be used for the 1056-foot kilofoot.

1kft = 12000 inches

1Kft = 12672 inches

Why is VAT so complicated system?

There are many people, especially business owners, who would like to know why!

It's complicated by being a paid in a sort of chain, passed from supplier to customer, on both goods and services.

There are also many exemptions on a complex list of goods and services, or "zero-rate" VAT rates - the difference seeming absurd until you realise that the latter implies it would be relatively easy to change the rate - upwards.

For example, if I were to buy fish-&-chips to eat at home I would not be charged VAT on them, but I would if I ate them as a meal in the cafe section of the same chip-shop.

There are situations in which companies can claim refunds on VAT, or pass it on, paid on certain goods such as road fuel used in the course of the business.

Then the VAT rate and exemptions differ markedly from country to country within the European Union - only an organisation like the EU could invent a tax system so wilfully and bewilderingly complicated!

How many grams are in 3.5 kilogrames?

Remember K H D | d c m (kilo, hecto, deka, (liter, meter, gram), deci, centi, milli). These are the denominations you need to list when converting metric units. Kilograms are three places to the left of grams. So you have to move the decimal place three times to the left (same as dividing by 1000). You will get 35 g = .035 kg.

What instrument is used to weigh a glass of water in ml?

Millilitres, ml, is a unit of volume rather than weight. The weight (strictly the mass) of a glass of water would be measured in grams. To weigh a glass of water, you'd just put it on a simple top pan balance. To measure the volume, you'd transfer the water to a vessel with a calibrated scale on the side, eg a measuring cylinder.
