This question is very out of date. Beta 1.8 has been released for some time, now. The current version of Minecraft is Release 1.2.5.

Many ways. One is to just stack blocks in the shape of like, a square, and put your stuff in it. Or my favorite way, which is my house, is to dig into a mountain, or underground, clear out a cavern, and put your stuff in there.

First off, an online server means that the server is up and running. It is available for people to join. An offline server means that the server is down and closed for people who want to join.

single player mode on minecraft

No. You can only tame a wolf with bones.

Try a mod. You could use InvEdit or SPC (Single Player Commands).

One of the Minecraft files that are required to start it may be corrupted. Uninstall and reinstall Minecraft and see if that fixes it.

You must be admin for that

Try clicking options in the log in menu and do "Force Update". If that doesnt work, try going into your files, search "%appdata% and delete your .minecraft folder. Then go to minecraft again and it should re-install all the updates.

You can host a Minecraft Server from your computer for free (although you have the cost of internet upload). But, if your computer isn't powerful enough you can hire a server for an amount of money.

there can be 2 problems that i know of

i will discuss the one that i know how to fix first (its a bit confusing so read it carefully)

problem 1: you hae put the map in your minecraft saves folder and it will not show up on your map list, this is an easy fix

step 1: go in your minecraft saves folder

step 2: go into your downloads and find the ZIP file that the map is in

step 3: open the ZIP file (right click, open) if it says you cant open then right click, open with WINrar, IZarc or whatever archiver you have

step 4: once you have the zip file opened, double click on the folder and find the level.dat (there maybe files called old level.dat but just highlight all of the files that look like a peice of paper)

step 5: once you hilighted all of the files that look like a peice of paper, shrink the window that the minecraft saves folder is in (you know the button next to the X in the top right of the window) also shrink the ZIP file of the map then double click on the name of the map folder in the minecraft saves window

step 6: in the minecraft map folder, right click AND HOLD any of the hilighted files and frag them into the with space in the minecraft map folder (MAKE SURE you do not drag them into any of the files that looks like a folder)

problem 2: you downloaded and installed the map correctly but for some reason your not in the map your supposed to be in

problem 3: (in know theres only 2 but TOO BAD!) you only downloaded it and left it like that

step 1: go to your startup menu (if you have windows click the little color thing in the bottom left of the screen)

step 2: in the search bar type in "%appdata%" (without the "'s IMPORTANT: type in the percent signs to)

step 3: press the ENTER key

step 4: double click the .minecraft folder

step 5: double click the saves folder

step 6: go to your downloads and find the map's ZIP file

step 7: open the ZIP file

step 8: in the ZIP file of the map, right click and hold then drag the folder IN THE WHITE SPACE in the saves folder

(if you don't see the world in your minecraft maps while in the game then read "problem 1" at the top of this answer)

well besides the classic play on the mine craft website you can not play multi-player in mine craft for free.

you can find lots of wolves. this is what happens to me: when i look for stuff, i dont find much or any at all. when im not looking i find lots.

Once you find a diamond ore, you will need either an iron pickaxe or a diamond pickaxe to mine it. If you try to mine it with a wood, stone, or gold pick, the diamond will simply disappear. To make an iron pickaxe, you first need to smelt three iron ores in a furnace. Use the iron ingots to make a pick:

right click into the ocean and wait for a splash noise then right click and now you have a raw fish :)

The only possible reason for that is a faulty mouse. Try buying a new one or check to make sure that its on a flat surface or any other problem.

No! Mods are short for modifications, which change the gameplay slightly. They aren't illegal, they just support only the version of Minecraft they are compiled for. Jeb is even thinking of adding "Mod Support".

Although, If you are playing on multiplayer servers, you should check the rules because some servers ban certain mods/hacks. Some servers even require you to download certain mods and/or texture packs to log into them (Tekkit servers, etc.)
