All you need to do is break 4 pieces of snow on the ground with a shovel (any shovel will work) and place the 4 snowballs in a square on the crafting grid.

You will need to build the Nether Portal by collecting at least 8 Obsidian. (If you are including the corners, it will be 12.) Obsidian can be found deep underground where it is at lava level and can be mined by using a Diamond Pickaxe. When you gather the Obsidian, place four vertically, then place another four Obsidian two blocks away from the pillar you made. If you did not get the Obsidian for the corners, then I recommend using dirt to be substitute of the corners, then place two Obsidian from the dirt to the next horizontally.
