You have to get a photographer and make a portfolio before you will even be considered for a modeling contract. The portfolio is what you use to sell yourself when looking for modeling jobs and contracts.

There are several different types of modeling that is done, both online as well as offline. Many models begin extremely young. For older adults there are options like if you are looking for a place to start do ample amounts of research and find what suites you best. Online modeling is by far the easiest to get into. There is modeling work to be found in Birmingham but not as much compared to markets like Los Angeles or New York. Local modeling agencies in the area have the networking capabilities to find their models work.

By doing an online search for modeling agencies that represent teen models. Look for agencies that are located within a 2 hour's drive from where you live and visit their websites to find out which ones represent teen models.

For the ones that do, the websites will list the instructions for how to submit yourself and what guidelines you'll need to follow. If they're interested in your submission, they'll invite you for an interview and if that goes well, they'll offer you a contract, which your parents will have to sign.

Models are independent contractors, which means that even though they may be signed to a modeling agency, the agency is not their employer. Because of that work situation, models are paid by the hour or by the day and is not technically considered a salaried type of job.

If you are an experienced model then you'll need to submit your professional headshot and/or comp card. However, if you are a new model with little to no experience, agencies prefer to receive clear, digital, non professional snapshots of your face and full body, including profiles.

It depends on what and who that person works for. If you are looking to be one, I say it is a pointless and stupid job!
