Mount Everest first attracted interest in 1847 when it was suspected of being the world's highest mountain. This was confirmed in 1849. Prior to this it had probably been known to the natives but did not attract particular attention. It was first successfully climbed (not discovered) in 1953.

This will depend on the weather and visibility. On a clear day you will probably see for a couple hundred miles taking in the view of many other high mountains, you will even see the curvature of the earth.

Due to the fact that the climate on Mount Everest is so harsh, it is no surprise that very little lives on the mountain itself. However, there are some things that have been found on Everest. Of course, the vast majority of these things have been found at the bottom of the mountain, but some are surprisingly much higher up.

The Euophrys omnisuperstes is a small jumping spider that lives 22,000ft up Mount Everest.

The Bar-Headed Goose has been seen flying around Everest at up to thirty thousand feet.

Another bird that has been known to survive on Everest is the Chough, this bird has been seen as high as 7,920 meters.

There has only been a handfull of disabled people to have climbed Mount Everest. Tom Whittaker from the USA became the first disabled/handicapped (has an artificial leg) person to reach the summit of Mount Everest on 27th May 1998. Others have included a blind man and a woman with one leg.

There are many dangers on Mount Everest. Many people die before reaching the summit, which is 11,328 feet from base camp because of the strong winds, the freezing temperatures (that reach about -35ºC in the winter), and lack of oxygen above Earth's atmosphere. These are all things that you must be wary of when climbing Mount Everest. Not to mention the walls of ice and the probability that if not properly trained, you could die from bad equipment or lack of knowledge of your equipment.
