yes, he does die in Chapter 508 when he gets captured by the Konoha ninjas. He kills himself by having one of his sharks eat him so he won't give Intel out to them. When fighting with Raikage he used a clone to pretend he was dead. He was actually captured by Guy in Chapter 506-507.
