What are the working hours of a NASCAR driver?
HOT! On a cool day temperatures inside the car can reach upwards of 140 degrees (because of the heat of the engine and exhaust pipes), and they have no air conditioning! (Don't want to lose that horsepower just for air conditioning!) Imagine what it's like on a hot summer day. Uggh! Normally there is a tube that connects to their helmet that allows outside air to be pumped into their helmet. (Outside air, gee, thanks... not really very comforting on 90 degree days!) If the race is going to be run on a hot, sunny day, many drivers will actually get IV's of fluids before the race to avoid dehydration during the race because they will sweat so much. NASCAR racing is no "Sunday drive" In addition to being hot and sweaty all day (to the point of heat exhaustion), would you have the mental focus and physical capacity to drive for 500 miles straight through? Without getting out of the car for a break? And only stopping for short periodic 10 second timeframes? And do that at about 180mph for 4 hours straight? Takes alot of endurance, both mentally and physically. Whew, thanks, but I think I'll remain a fan! Fan of cup champion of 1995, 1997, 1998, 2001, and 2007! Keeping an eye on the "drive for five"....go 24!
