What did the slavery do in new England?

Im not exactly sure what you mean by your question, but I will attempt to answer the best I can as I am a direct descendant from a New England family whose history was greatly affected by the Civil War and the subsequent freedom of the African slaves; For the most part to those of the North slavery was appalling. As many of those in the Northern states were of Anglo-Saxon decent, our people had been enslaved throughout history,by the Roman Empire and later by the monarchy. Those as commoners had always been indebted to someone in one way or form and had come here to be free. It is what coming to this place was about, so anyone that could be enslaved was a direct threat to us all. Today it is Africans, so what will it be tomorrow? Christians? Protestants? Episcopals? Quakers? There were many who saw the tribal African people as savages and wanted little to no part in the war. But they were the minority. I lost Three great uncles in the Civil War because they believed that "all" men were created equal in the eyes of God. So to answer your question, slavery rallied the people together to fight for freedom!
