The Wii U is a different console to the Wii. The Wii U however is compatible with Wii games and accessories.

It really depends on how much money you want to spend and whether you like high definition stuff. I don't have a Wii U, but in my opinion it is probably not very fun because it is more or less like a Nintendo DS with that touchscreen and stuff. I really like Wii because it already has a lot of fun games, but they might stop making them soon. It depends on whether you want the latest console, whether you like HD games, and whether you want a giant touchscreen built into your controller.
