Almost anywhere in geometry.

However, when you add a negative and positive number together, the number that is greater would determine which +/- sign the answer is and you would subtract it by the lesser number.
ex: -2 + 5 = 3 - notice how the number 5 is greater than -2? You would then subtract 2 from 5. To make things easier, you could also rewrite the equation.
