Beneath a Moonless Sky is about the night before Christine and Raouls wedding. Christine finds Erik in his lair and they began to have a night of sex. when Christine wakes and goes to tell Erik that she wants to be with him he's already left, not thinking he can give her as good of a life as Raoul could.

In the book, it says that he crashed the chandelier, drugged the gasmen, and took her after she sang about angels. However, in the movie, it tells that it was during the masquerade that he goes through a trapdoor right beside the grande stairecase.

Madame Giry's reasons, she views the Phantom as a Christine's father figure and is being protective of Christine's well being.

This is kind of confusing but in the Gaston Leroux (origional version) the Phantom is a man named Erik. He was hideously disfigured and had a voice that sounded almost angelic. He was one of the contractors while they were building the opera house, and he built a series of trap doors and a hidden bottom floor for himself to live in solitary peace to write music.

People believe he was a ghost, angel, or phantom because of these trap doors that he could slip his voice through or appear out of.
