There is a folklore story of Pocahontas rescuing John Smith from execution by her father Powhatan but nothing about HER being rescued. The one time she might have been "rescued" was when she was captured by the English during Anglo-Indian hostilities in 1613, and held for ransom. During her captivity, she converted to Christianity and took the name Rebecca. When presented with the opportunity to return to her people, she chose to remain with the English so apparently she felt no need to be "rescued" at that point.

Pocahantas died in 1617. Roosevelt wasn't born until 1858. So, no.
Yes, it is possible. There are varying accounts historically of what happened with and between John Smith (Smyth) and Pocahontas. It depends on who's "version" of history you believe. There is evidence of Peregrin Smith born in Jamestown in 1608 at which time Pocahontas would have been 13 or 14 - certainly of child bearing age. There is too much evidence otherwise to dismiss these historical traditions. The only way to verify a connection would be to have DNA testing on a Rolfe family descendant and yourself to see if there is a match that would connect Pocahontas.

Why did Pocahontas help James Smith?
Well, she didn't. She helped JOHN Smith. And her name was not actually Pocahontas- that was a nickname that means "little playful one". Her actual name was Matoaca. As far as her motive, there is a lot of discussion about that. At the time of the event, she was still a young girl, not in her teens, so romance is probably not the answer. There is a belief that Cpt. Smith was not in danger, but was undergoing a ritual adoption ceremony, and she played her assigned role in the ritual. But it does make for good discussion. What do YOU think? PS- do some reading about her, and ignore the Disney cartoon. That is more of a fairy tale than a true story.
