Why does a polar bear not fall on ice?
It is my understanding that they do slip on ice like many other animals.
What helps them though is their wide paws and four legs. They can distribute their weight out on the ice, not causing too much of a push in one direction. They're very stable if they go at a regular pace on a level surface.
If their friction (increased by their weight) gives way, they're toast just like anyone else.
What is the best way to tame a polar bear?
Polar bears can't and shouldn't be tamed. They should remain free.
However, the easiest way is to raise an orphaned cub in captivity, which has been done several times. Many species of bears are difficult to domesticate.
How do the large feet of a polar bear act to reduce the pressure on ice?
it will spread it out across the large surface area therefore decreasing it. hope that helps! :)
Is a polar bear a tertiary consumer?
Polar bears are carnivorous, hence, they eat things that eat other things. Primary consumers are organisms that feed off of the nutrients supplied, i.e. plants, algae, etc. One creature eats a primary consumer, becomes a secondary consumer, and is eaten by polar bears, making them tertiary consumers.
What are facts about polar bears?
The polar bear is the world's largest predator found on land. As it can hunt consistently only from sea ice, the polar bear spends much of the year on the frozen sea. The polar bear is classified as a vulnerable species. The U.S. Geological Survey predicts two-thirds of the world's polar bears will disappear by 2050, based on moderate projections for the shrinking of summer sea ice caused by global warming.
A mother polar bear gives birth every 3 years but normally only has 2 cubs. The cubs weigh less thnan 2 pounds when they are born and to protect them the mother can hide them between the toes of her front paws, but only in the first years of their life.
Polar bears have different names by which they are known such as Nanook, sea bear and the name that scientists use, Thacartos-Maritimus. A polar bear's family would be called Urisade.
They are really good at swimming.
They can live from 25-30 years long. The oldest polar bear that ever lived was 41 years old. They have a great sense of smell, they can smell food from km/ miles away.
Polar bears do not have white fur: they have clear hollow hairs and the light reflects off them and makes the polar bear look white.
When hunters are hunting for them in the snow they cover their black nose with their paws so that they can't see them.
Native people would kill them for their fur, meat, & for medicine.
Their ears are small to keep them from losing the heat and their feet carry and balance out their weight so it prevents them from sinking into the snow. They stick to the snow and ice rarely going to the sea to sneak up on the seals they do this because they can then get their food easily and won't go hungry.
they use there thick white fur to stay warm

Polar bears are marine mammals
theyre usually 9 and a half feet tall when they stand up
polar bears eat seals, muskox, raindeer, small rodents, sea birds, peguins, shellfish, fish, eggs, kelp, beries, and human garbage.
Why do polar bears have padded paws?
The better to swim with, large forepaws to help pull them through the water at surprisingly fast speeds, and the back legs and paws are used as rudders! ON ice, they help evenly distribute their massive weight over thin ice while walking, muffle their footsteps so they can hunt in a "stealth mode" and give good traction on the ice as well. Their paw can measure a foot across and has tufts of hair in between the black pads, which have little bumps called "papillae", these help with traction.
Can a polar bear live in the south pole?
Polar bears do not live exactly at the North Pole, but polar bears live in the Arctic region near the North Pole.
How many Cubs do bears have per litter?
A koala doesn't have a litter. They are a marsupial and have one baby at a time. The baby grows in a pouch attached to the mother until it is big enough to enter the world. It begins blind and hairless and grows in the pouch.
How does a polar bear get oxygen?
They breath air into their lungs through their nasal passage. This is how all mammals breath.
by breathing it in? I'm pretty sure its obvious but the fact that you had to ask makes me hesitant as I now feel there's something way more complicated
How do the adaptations help a polar bear?
For the same reason that it is important for any living things to have them. They may help a species survive environmental threatening environmental changes. Adaptations usually don't happen quickly, and the more advanced a species usually the narrower the range of adaptations that a species has. If another event similar to the one that ended the dinosaurs happened today, humans (for all of our intelligence and technology) would almost certainly die out. Insects and very small animals would likely make it through, as they have done before.
It is unlikely although not impossible that polar bears will be able adapt to the rapid changes affecting their habitat. Possibly within the lifetimes of some people now living, polar bears will be completely gone from the wild, and will live only in zoos.
What type of consumer are polar bears?
Yes because a consumer {in this context also known as a Living Organism} needs sources of Energy to LIVE.
They are (LIVING) Organisms that require complex organic and biochemical compounds for Food which they obtain by preying on other organisms or by eating particles of organic matter.
How much does a polar bear's brain weigh?
The polar bear is the largest carnivore on the earth. Adult males weigh between 350 to 680 kilograms (770 to 1500 pounds). Females are comparatively smaller and weigh around 150 to 250 kilograms (330 to 550 pounds). However, when the female is pregnant, she can weigh as high as 500 kilograms. The largest ever Polar Bear recorded by man weighed 1002 kilograms (2210 pounds).
Are polar bears aquatic animals?
No. The polar bear is a land carnivore, although some people think of it as a sea mammal, simply because it spends a lot of time in the water.
How does a polar bear digest its food?
Polar Bears are expert hunters. They usually hunt in areas that interface between ice and water. They rarely hunt in open water. They use a technique called "Still Hunting". They use their excellent sense of smell to locate a seal breathing hole and wait for the seal to appear. When the Seal comes out to breathe, the bear smells its breath, reaches into the hole with its front paws and drags it out of the water. They kill the seal by biting its head. They often raid the birth lairs of female seals and prey on the seal pups. They are extremely powerful and can even kill an adult walrus.
Why do rabbits from polar regions have white fur?
It helps them blend in with the snow in winter time, so they won't be found by predators.
What is the average height of a polar bear?
males:8-10ft females:6-8ft
The polar bear is the largest carnivore on the earth. They can measure between 2.4 to 3 meters in length (7.9 to 9.8 feet). Females are comparatively smaller and measure 1.8 to 2.4 meters (5.9 to 7.9 feet) in length.
Standing on all four feet, their height at shoulder is around 130 to 160 cms (4 to 5.5 feet) and while standing they can be as much as 10 feet or more in height.
Do polar bears have good eyesight?
yess they have good eyesight because they need to see far away incase there is any seals ahead ! they love to eat seals !
No. Moose and polar bears do not live in the same place as each other.
What will happen to the polar bear if the ice keeps melting?
If polar bears become extinct then not only will we loose a beautiful creature but there will more than likely be a rise in the population of their favorite prey which could result in problems such as out eating of their habitat/over harvesting of those animals favorite prey. All animals have a role in the ecosystem.
If polar bears extinct, then the food chain and ecosystem will be affected. Also we will lose these great animals!
How much can a polar bear eat?
they eat 7 servings/day while youthy growning. Adults eat 2 servings , consisting ussually of crushed up seal, produced by their mouths.
Polar bears gorge themselves when they have food, usually consuming it all in one meal.
