You can compete from the age of 11/12.
I guess you can learn and train for it at any age.
Generally between 6-10 pounds when it's upright. However, when lowering the pole it can pull on the body with more then 20 pounds of force.
Mostly for as long as they can until the summer Olympics start.Maybe a year or so.

A vault is a safe or secure depository. Example: a bank's safe is a vault.
Vault can also mean to jump over something.
It may also be a large self sustaining underground bomb shelter, in the Fallout games
or it could be a gymnastics vault, where you run up to it and do a twist or a handspring over it
Definitions of vault on the Web: * a burial chamber (usually underground) * a strongroom or compartment (often made of steel) for safekeeping of valuables * an arched brick or stone ceiling or roof * jump across or leap over (an obstacle) * bound vigorously * the act of jumping over an obstacle
If you are not
1.) running down the middle of the lane
2.) planting the pole in the middle of the pit
3.) vaulting with an overall centered position
you will
1.) vault either to the left of right of the pit (not good)
2.) potentially hurt yourself (more than likely)
Balance HELPS to accomplish these tasks.

The men's pole vault world record was broken on May 14, 1966 (this answer date is May 18, 2009) by Bob Seagren of the United States who vaulted a height of 5.32 meters (17 feet, 5 1/2 inches).
The current men's world record was set by Sergei Bubka of Ukraine in 1994 at a height of 6.14 meters (20 feet, 1 3/4 inches).
Trick question: The pole used in pole vaulting may be any length. There are no restrictions as far as how long a pole can be or how much a pole can weigh. Poles are rated by the weight of the person using it. Looking at a site that sells poles they come in lengths from 7 feet to 16 feet.
Pole vaulting is an athletic event where a person uses a long, flexible pole (which today are usually made either of fiberglass or carbon fiber) as an aid to leap over a bar. Pole jumping competitions were known to the ancient Greeks, as well as the Cretans and Celts.
Modern competitions probably began around 1850 in Germany, when it was added to the gymnastic exercises of the Turner by Johann C. F. GutsMuths and Frederich L. Jahn. The modern pole vaulting technique was developed in the United Statesat the end of the nineteenth century. In Great Britain, it was first practiced at the Caledonian Games. Initially, vaulting poles were made from stiff materials such as bamboo or aluminium; later, the introduction of flexible vaulting poles made from composites such as fiberglass or carbon fiber allowed vaulters to achieve new heights.

it is not nessesery to be tall but it does help
It depends on your weight. For example if you weigh 130 pounds you would use a pole that has a max weight of 130 pounds, and usually the poles with a lighter weight on them are usually thinner because they don't need to hold up so much weight. It also depends on the height. poles vary in heights.
I am 11 years old and jumped 1m and 15cm, and my friend jumped 1m and 25cm. But I am 6'3, and 4' is much shorter. Everyone is either good or not good at high jump. If this girl is good at high jump, an average height would most likely be 1m and 5-10cm. If this girl is not good at high jump, the average height would most likely be 95cm - 1m.
Ray was 17 years, 198 days old when he set the pole vault record of 3.42 meters (11 feet, 2 5/8 inches) on September 19, 1879.
