Does a above ground Pool cover provide any heating for above ground pool water?
Your regular cover won't heat the pool, it will hold the heat, but it will not heat it up. You need a solar blanket if you are looking for something to warm your pool.
How increase pool temperature?
Pool temperatures can be increased by installing a pool heater. They can also be raised by using a solar blanket.
Are there combination pool heaters and coolers on the market?
Most definitely yes. There are even heat pump that can heat your pool and domestic hot water ot underfloor heating. But a simple heat/chill heat pumps are usually produced for other applications. You may also want to search "dual purpose" and "milti-purpose" heat pumps.
Our Jandy pool heater will only ignite for 10 sec then give trouble code FL2 its brand new LJ model?
You need the services of a qualified service tech or the builder/installer to diagnose that specific problem and correct it. Do not attempt ant repairs yourself. You may void any warranty that the heater, the manufacturer or the builder has on that piece of equipment.
Why would a Teledyne Laars pool heater burn the heater housing?
The heat exchanger or copper tubes just above the burners are most likely sooted. Sooting means poor ventilation. Are the heater vents ~ either stackless or stack top ~ properly installed to code? See to it that the venting from the very top of the heater to the exit point above the roof for indoor installation is brought to code. Is the heater installed inside a shed or equipment room? If so, does the enclosure have the proper sized vents in the proper locations as per heater manufacturer and code? Have they been modified since installation and approval? Correct this problem at once if the vents are undersized or restricted in anyway. If this is a stackless top heater ~ meaning does it have a grate atop the heater ~ make sure the space above and around the heater are to manufacturer's specs and to code. All these scenarios and more will affect the performance of the heater
Another version of this is called flame roll out. Very dangerous situation. You need a qualified swimming pool heater to troubleshoot soon. k
It blows like a fuse once it reaches a certain temp and must be replaced.
Good chance its your hot surface ignighter that has broken. Check to make sure that there is 120 v or far more common 220v at fenwal Depending if heater is wired for 120v or 240v. If proper voltage is present ignighter is broken. by zoomy
What do it mean if the laars pool heater control panel says Hi Lim SW?
It could mean that the High Limit Switch has failed or is about to fail. You should call a qualified swimming pool tech to trouble shoot the that heater control component. If he should fine that it is indeed faulty - replace it. He should further check ALL the other components to make sure that they are performing to their potential or to factory specs. This service could save you $$$ in the long run. The heater is trying to tell you something ~ and that is to get it serviced soon. A failed High Limit Switch could perceivable let your heater run or fire or continue to burn even though the pump has shut off. And as you may have already found out ~ nothing works unless the pump is working or running. k
Can the bestway 12ft x 4ft pool connect to a heater?
Yes it can, you can either us a bestway or intex 3kw heater.
Write or inquire thru that web site for a manual to be sent to you. k
Absolutely yes! When we use our pool solar blanket we can get the temp up to around 90 with no problem. We live in Maryland. The key is to keep the cover on as much as possible and todefinitely leave it on a night when most heat is lost. The cover acts as a means to allow solar energy in and to keep it there. I would highly recommend a cover.
Buy a cover that is too big because they are easy to cut to size with scissors.
Good luck!
Does a reel work well for taking off and putting on solar blankets?
You would not believe just how easy your job will be with a pool cover reel system. .... If it is installed correctly. k
How do solar pool covers work?
The pic associated with this answer has nothing to do with a Solar Cover or Solar Blanket. It looks as if these are solar panels for electricity.
Solar blankets look like a stronger version of bubble wrap. Their primary purpose when they are laid on the water (bubble side down) is to keep whatever warmth the pool water has in it from escaping into the cooler air at night.
They are usually a light blue or clear in color. Clear allows more sunlight into the pool to heat the water better.
If you cut your solar pool blanket in 3 large pieces will they stay in place on the pool?
If the wind comes up ~ most likely NOT. k
pool whips are flexible hoses that move around the bottom of the pool to move dirt and alea towards the filter. They move from the force of the water spraying out of them.
What is the difference between pebble-tech and quartz and wetedge?
There is a web link describing quarts finish below.
There is also a web link on pebble tech below.
pebble tech and quarts are pool surface finishes (see the links mentioned above)
Wet edge is a method of constructing a pool where by one or more edges of the pools side are built just below the waters natural surface height. This brings about a situation where water is constantly falling over the edge of the pool into a balance tank and then via filtration back into the pool.
What is the better decking around your pool?
Cement with a rough textured finish or paver's. Paver's are probably a slightly better choice because if anything goes wrong with the plumbing you don't have to do any concrete cutting.
From what I have read, 500mV is not enough to keep the pilot light lit. Here is what I read on a different site:
"You can check if this is the problem by measuring the voltage on the wires coming back from the pilot. When you have the red switch depressed, check the voltage (should be about 200mV). If there's no voltage, then change the thermocouple.
The thermocouple will generate up to 750mV in a pilot flame. If it falls below 550mV it should kill the fuel source."
Hope this helps.
What size heat pump for a 18x33x4.5 deep above ground pool?
The size of a heat pump that you can use for a pool which is 18 feet wide by 33 feet long and has a depth of 4.5 feet can vary depending on specific brand of heat pump you wish to purchase. The minimum size of heat pump for an above ground pool of this size in 102,000 BTU.
How long does it take for a spa to heat up after being refilled?
I think it depends on your brand/model. I have a 2008 Sundance Hawthorne (240V). The dealer told me it heats 6 degrees per hour with the cover on, but it seems to be more like 5 degrees per hour.
Ice on a heat pump is completely normal. In operation the heatpump removes heat from outside air and delivers this heat into the home. When the temperature falls below about 45F and the humidity is high enough the moisture condenses on the heat pump fins. The heat pumps have sensors to detect the ice buildup and will reverse every 40 to 90 minutes to defrost the external coils and restore the ability to move air through the fins. If the system runs, builds up ice and does not periodically defrost itself the system is in need of service as the defrost cycle is not being initiated properly.
What do you do if the bubble under your pool cover pops and your pool is already covered with ice?
Typically you really do not need to do anything. Many homeowners winterize their pool every year, without even using an air pillow. Not using an air pillow will not harm your pool in any way, even in climates where freezing temperatures occur.
For the most part the benefit of an air pillow allow the water on the top of the cover to collect more towards the outside of the pool, rather than the center. This helps keep the cover from flapping in high wind situations. Which can help with the lifespan of the pool cover.
It is not necessary to use an air pillow, and there is no reason to be alarmed if your pillow has deflated. Your pool will be just fine in the Spring!

Correct Answer
While it is true that you can do very little once the pillow is popped, the above answer is otherwise incorrect.
The proper name for the pillow is "Ice Equalizer Pillow"
If you are in an area where ice may form on your pool it is suggested that you use an ice equalizer pillow under the cover. Those pillows are for keeping a hole in the middle of the ice, and not so much for holding up the cover as is a common misconception. The use of an ice equalizer pillow may can help reduce the chances of ice damage if your area is prone to freezing. If the pillow is overfilled with air prior to putting it into the pool, the pressure placed on it from ice expansion on the surface of the pool can cause it to pop. When the pillow s filled it should be filled loosely - you should be able to easily press your hand into it about 12 inches. When you tie it in you should leave some room for the pillow to shift slightly. Overfilling with air and tying too tightly are the two primary reasons for ice equalizer pillows to pop.
Of course, in areas not prone to freezing, the pillow is only there as a convenience and serves little purpose othter than that stated on the first answer, which is to help keep the water toward the edge.
Should pool equipment be installed on cement?
Yes.
If you use wood you run the risks of Fire, termite damage, wood rot, etc.
A pool heater sitting on a deck that is of flammable materials could burn your house down. The heat emitted from the heater is extreme. If, in the event of a fire, due to decking that is not to code, it could be a possibility that you may be denied insurance coverage or worst yet canceled insurance. k
