Prometheus Creates Man out of Clay

As a reward for his service to the Gods during the war with the Titans, Zeus rewarded Prometheus and his brother, Epimetheus with gifts of traits and asked them to create creatures. Prometheus shaped the beginnings of Man out of clay, and began to add traits to his beloved creations. But as he tried to add some more, he realized that his brother, Epimetheus, in foolishness, had used all of the traits and parts making animals and creatures other than humankind. So man was left without as many traits as animals.

Prometheus sought to trick the mighty sky god by fooling him into taking the lesser part of a sacrifice by mankind. Zeus, however, wasnt pleased. He ordered that Prometheus be chained to Mount Caucasus and have his liver eaten out and regenerate daily by a vulture. So, Hephaestus chained Prometheus, and he endured his punishment for many years.
