Prometheus (Mythology)

The Titans were the 6 elder gods - Cronus, Coeus, Crius, Iapetus, Hyperion and Oceanus. The Titanides (female Titans) were Rhea, Theia, Tethys, Themis, Phoebe and Mnemosyne. Many of their children also received the appellation 'Titan', including Prometheus.

Prometheus was known as the Titan god of forethought and it was he who was entrusted with the task of moulding mankind out of clay.

Prometheus' father is definitely Iapetus. Different records say different things but it is narrowed down to being either Clemyne or Themis being the mother. I'm not sure but you will probably find more things pointing to Themis. It is really what you want to believe i guess at this point but i had to do a report on Prometheus and I said the mother was Themis and i wasn't marked down or anything. Sorry! Prometheus had befriended the humans and took pity upon them. He wanted to see them succeed and thrive instead of die off. So he helped mortals by stealing fire in the fennel stalk and showing them how to use it. Prometheus is a gentle titan, and very compassionate, while Zeus enjoys being in control and believed that the fire was meant for the gods, and not to be handed to the mortals.

The forbidden fruit was entirely different. Satan had tempted Eve, he did not hand her fire and show her how to use it. He wanted her to have the fruit from the forbidden tree so that she would fall from God's grace, and in the process, drag Adam down with her. This way, Satan was proving that mortals were not god-like, because they could be tempted and would eventually fail.

Prometheus was not a dark god in the slightest. He was a titan who had the power of foresight(he could see events that have not yet happened) while his brother had the gift of hindsight(he saw things that had already happened). In all technicalities, he is not a god. He is a titan.

Satan and Prometheus differ in many ways, for example, Satan is the opposite of the christian God because he is what they consider to be the almighty evil tempter. Prometheus was a titan, who is not opposite a god and is seen as a friend of humans, someone to help the mortals.

The titans were his enemy in the War of the Gods, and then the remaining ones were his cowed subjects, so any attempt to defy him could be seen as the Titans rebelling again. Also he had a huge superiority complex and wanted to remain better than the humans and so didn't like them having things he wanted to reserve solely for the gods.

Prometheus gave man the gift of fire because man hadn't yet invented external space heaters yet and it was freezing. This pissed off Zeus, who was worried about global warming, so he chained Prometheus to a rock and ordering an eagle to eat his liver every day. This was the first recorded act of environmental terrorism.

The Titan Iapetus (gr.ΙΑΠΕΤΟΣ, Ιαπετος). His mother was Klymene (gr.ΚΛΥΜΕΝΗ, Κλυμενη).

Hades' symbol is his bronze helm of terror that makes the wearer invisible. Hades lends it to both gods and mortal, for example, Perseus wore the helm when he went to kill Medusa and Athena wore is during the Trojan War so Ares would not be able to see her.

Prometheus was the son of Uranus and Gaea (The personifications of the sky and the Earth). He was stuck inside of his mother until he was freed by Kronos. He was born because when night came Uranus came down and mated with mother Gaea. Then he stuck of his children inside of his mother.

Zeus had every intention of leaving Prometheus to the eagle for eternity, but Hercules killed the eagle and freed Prometheus from the mountains he was nailed to.

Ovid was a Roman writer that credited Prometheus of creating humans out of clay. Eventually Prometheus fell out of favor with the other gods for teaching mortals civilized activities and was punished by Zeus.

Her name was Hesione and she bore him a son, Deucalion.

He took the fire from the gods and gave it to the humans.

Prometheus was the protagonist in the Greek myth about the origin of man's use and control of fire. Therefore, Prometheus symbolizes any concept related to this.

Prometheus is kind, unselfish, he also thought about the humans and gave him the gift of fire. He did not deserve such a severe punishment.
