Quicksand

Quicksand is loose, wet sand that is said to pull down anything that sets a foot on it, but some studies show that you won't sink on quicksand, instead you would just float.

Do you die in quicksand?

User Avatar
Yes you would because the sand would suck you in until you can no longer reach the surface. Therefore you wouldn't be able to breath
Asked in Quicksand

Can you describe quicksand?

User Avatar
A mixture mud, sand, and water that pulls in objects. The only was to prevent yourself from sinking is to not struggle and to relax and then you will slowly come to the top!!!

How do you make a quicksand experiment?

User Avatar
Making quick sand is fun and easy. If you gather these materials and follow these steps. You'll have some quicksand that looks and feels like the real stuff. Materials- Corn Starch- 1 cup Maple Syrup- 1 tablespoon Sand- half a cup Water- 1 cup Milk- three fourths a cup Large Mixing Bowl Spoon Food Coloring- optional- about three to four drops. Steps- 1. Add Corn Starch, Maple Syrup, Sand, and Milk in a large mixing bowl and stir with spoon. Once mixed thinly add the water and mix for about 2 minutes. Then, add food coloring if you wish. Last, place in refrigerator for about 1 hour or until gelled. When it's done enjoy some fun and easy quicksand. Another way to make quick sand is to place 1cup of corn flour in a mixing cup with half a cup of water and mix really quickly and swiftly until it is harder than you started and there you have it! Quick and easy quicksand.

Do not struggle. Use slow swimming movements, float on top and roll to solid ground. And never roll over and dont let your face hit the quicksand.

Where is quicksand found?

User Avatar
quicksand is solid ground that's been liquefied, usually by an underground water source. A soupy mix of sand and water, quicksand is usually only a few feet deep. It can be found anywhere that land and water meet, including beaches, marshes, and ponds. Quicksand is rarely found in deserts, due to the lack of water. It's also not a specific kind of soil -- any area of ground that has been sufficiently soaked with water to the point where it can't support weight can become quicksand. Earthquakes often temporarily liquefy soil, leading to serious structural damage. Contrary to popular belief, a run-in with a patch of quicksand doesn't spell certain doom. As the Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook reminds us, your body is still less dense than quicksand. While struggling may drag you in deeper, relaxing and floating on your back should do the trick. quicksand is solid ground that's been liquefied, usually by an underground water source. How do you run away from the quicksand in the relic castle in Pokemon white?

User Avatar
You can't run away from it once you've been caught, however you can avoid being caught in it by simply walking around the sides (do NOT run).

Can you die in quicksand?

User Avatar
Yes, but it depends on certain things. True quicksand is water coming up from the ground that saturates the dirt or sand particles making them float in the water. When you step in, you can get stuck. More so if you struggle. With real quicksand, at a point, you start to float so sinking over your head would be pretty hard to do. Now here's what could happen, if the water stops flowing upwards, all of the suspended particles will clamp around the part of your body and make it pretty hard to move. Depending on how deep you are depends on how long it will take you to get out. So if you are up to your knees, getting out will be much easier than say your waist deep. Worst case scenario, you were up to your shoulders when this happened making it difficult if not impossible to breathe.

What do you do if you get stuck in quicksand?

User Avatar
Relax and try to pull your self out with a branch. Once you get out lay on you stomach and crawl to the nearest dry land. Slow movements are best as vibrations and fast movements can liquefy the sand. Spreading the load over as large an area as possible such as by lying down can also help. find a path and leave above is a good answer but quicksand is not really going to pull you in so just chill and float to shore

Will a heavier person sink faster in quicksand?

User Avatar
actually no because the weight keeps it up so no
Asked in Quicksand

What causes quicksand and how can you escape from it?

User Avatar
Quicksand is caused by a solution of soil and water that appears to be a solid but when pressure is applied, it liquifies and supports no weight. The way to escape from it is to lay flat as possible and try to reamin as close to the surface as possible. Just like in water, you can float your way out of it. See the related link for more information. Basically, it forms when... just the right amount of water is under a mass of a combination of sand and other material such as clay. The water lubricates the sand particles while the clay prevents it from moving further underground. twigs and leaves can gather on the surface, making it difficult to distinguish from the surrounding environment kicking is the worst thing you can do if your ever stuck in quicksand since it shuffles the water around, making more space for you to fall through as they've proven on mythbusters and on several other occasions, it is not possible to completely sink in quicksand due to it's viscosity and your buoyancy (assuming your not carrying a brick of lead or anything really heavy.) This renderes the seemingly solid sand to remain stable until any significant pressure is applied (eg. a person), then it almost instantly goes into a semi-solid state that supports very little weight Quicksand is a colloid hydrogel consisting of fine granular matter (such as sand or silt), clay, and salt water. In the name, as in that of quicksilver (mercury), "quick" does not mean "fast," but "living" (cf. the expression the quick and the dead). Water circulation underground can focus in an area with the optimal mixture of fine sands and other materials such as clay. The water moves up and then down slowly in a convection-like manner throughout a column of sand, and the sand remains a generally solid mass. This lubricates the sand particles and renders them unable to support significant weight, since they move with little friction, behaving more like a liquid when exposed to stress. Since water does not usually go up to the surface of the sand, the sand on top appears solid, and can support leaves and other small debris, making quicksand difficult to distinguish from the surrounding environment. How To eScApE? Quicksand has a density of about 2 grams per milliliter. But human density is only about 1 gram per milliliter. At that level of density, sinking in quicksand is impossible. You would descend about up to your waist, but you'd go no further. Even objects with a higher density than quicksand will float on it-until they move. Aluminum, for example, has a density of about 2.7 grams per milliliter. But a piece of aluminum will float on top of quicksand until motion causes the sand to liquefy. During their study, researchers placed an aluminum bead on top of a container of laboratory-created quicksand. At rest, the bead remained on the surface, despite aluminum's higher density. But then scientists started shaking the container. When they shook it only a little, the bead stayed floating on top. But when they shook the container a bit harder, the ball descended to the bottom.

Well, you really just want to try and go around it. You don't want to walk right in to it if you don't want to go down. If you walk along the very edge you should be able to make it through

What should you do if you get caught in quicksand?

User Avatar
If caught in quicksand, experts advise that you do the following: do not panic do not thrash around do not struggle relax look around for any branch or item that can help spread out your upper body, make your body surface bigger begin to slowly pull and move forward in the direction of safety, using anything you have near, like a tree branch if you feel you're sinking, stop, reposition so your upper body is spread out again near the surface and start again

How do you walk through the quicksand in The Sims 2 Castaway on PS2?

Firstly you have to go At the third island and go in the Temple and pick up the crown behind the Throne and you have to go back to the second island and go in the cave to inspect an Ancient door with a hole in it and go straight across the river and a little to the left and you'll find some foot prints You go in those and push the pillar to your left, over the quicksand and you just walk across.
