What does the eastern cottontail footprint look like?

I am not sure that rabbits eat insects because they are very strict hebivores. They eat mostly grass, berries and other plants. I don't think that if a rabbit ate an insect that they would be considered "omnivores" because I don't classify insects as "meat".
Rabbits are no different than cats; they are curious. They will sniff lots of things every day. If it smells good they will give it a nibble or lick. You probably had a fruit shampoo so your rabbit thought it was actually long stringy fruit! Also rabbits need to gnaw on things to keep their teeth short. So it will chew on anything!
How long will wild baby rabbits live without their mom?
It depends on how old the baby rabbit is. If not already weaned, most babies will not survive long without their mother's milk, a few days at best. And their digestive system will not handle many substitutes, such as cow's milk. While very tempting to try to save such kits, it's extremely difficult to do and has little chance of success, so it's often better to just let nature take its course. The baby rabbit will not suffer very much, will gradually slip into a stupor and then go quietly in its sleep.
However, if already weaned, a baby bunny may be old enough to survive on its own. Preferably, leave it where you found it, in its nest or other safe spot nearby. Do not be tempted to bring it inside and try to domesticate it, wild rabbits do not make good pets. Keep an eye open for predators and try to discourage them from the area. And perhaps supplement its normal foraging habits with a little extra leafy greens left where it can find them. But be prepared - doing so may mean you've just encouraged a new pest to raid your gardens!
Young rabbits are called "kits" (based on the word "kitten") regardless of gender. The group or litter of baby rabbits can be called a "kindle."
Young hares (under a year old) are called "leverets" regardless of gender.
Adult male rabbits and hares are called bucks. Adult female rabbits and hares are called does.

How can you make the bunny feel safe?
The best thing to do for a scared rabbit is to leave them alone in peace and quiet.
If you are in a situation where this is not possible (i.e. the vets/car ride etc) covering a bunnies eyes by putting your hand over the forehead can sometimes help. Gently talking to the bunny and stroking slowly from head to rump will also help to calm a rabbit who is already comfortable with human contact.
However, part of this is dependent on what is causing the rabbits fear. If you know what is causing the fear then remove the stimulus if you can. i.e. Rabbits can be scared by something as simple as a helium balloon in the room...

How do you save a Rabbit from Heat Stroke?
Your rabbit's fur coat is the equivalent of you wearing a sweater at all times - if you think you'd be too warm in a sweater, chances are your rabbit is already too warm.
Pet rabbits are bred from the European Rabbit, which is adapted to mild, Mediterranean climates, where it never gets too hot. Pet bunnies are most comfortable between 50-75F (10-23C), and when it gets over 78F (25C), they're at risk of deadly heat stroke.
If your rabbit is overheated and can't be cooled down by the above methods or a shallow bath in a lukewarm water (i.e. if the rabbit has heat stroke, not just heat stress/exhaustion), you may have a medical emergency on your hands.
Signs of heat stroke (be prepared to visit the vet immediately!)If your rabbit has heat stroke, do NOT put him in a bath! This would actually make the problem worse (the cold water shrinks the blood vessels, making it even harder for the body to cool itself down). It could also put the rabbit in shock. Instead, dampen the ears with cool water, and seek immediate veterinary help.
See the related questions below for more info and helpful links.

When do bunnies go on their own?
After having several nests in my yard and research on line I have found the bunnies are nursed by the mother for 8 weeks. They are on their own all day except when the Mom comes to nurse which is only once a day. They tend to separate from their Mom once they are weened ( 8 weeks ) but the family does have a close bond. In fact many of last years litter have returned this year. Hope this helps a little!
Do girl rabbits have whiskers?
Whiskers on all animals (bunnies and cats included) are in fact thickened hairs with sensory organs in the skin at the base that allow them to be very sensitive 'touch' receptors - in some animals even picking up sound vibrations! In that sense, yes bunny and cat whiskers are alike.
