ADDITION: Doctors become concerned with bat bites not because bats commonly get rabies (they don't, as the above answer states) but because bat bites are so minor that people will a) ignore them, since there is not enough damage to go into the hospital for, or b) not realize there's a bite in the first place.

Rats very commonly eat the skin of sole of the sleeping person. It is extremely rare to get rabies from rat bite.
