the shell has nothing to do with gender. the way to find out is to look at it's tail and if it is long then it is a boy...if it is short then it is a girl...oh and if you flip you turtle over and run your finger side to side (not up and down) and if it feels like it goes in like a valley then it is a boy. you see when it is time to mate the male can stable itself on its mate...and when you run your finger across and it is flat then it is a girl...for she needs more room to carry her eggs.

You should only keep multiple Red eared sliders if they are from the same liter. If not they will fight each other. The ones from the same liter will just compete for food ,so give plenty.

Although red eared slider turtles are aquatic, they love to sit on rock and let themselves be exposed to the sun, air; and basking is part of their natural lifwestyle as it dries their shell on a regular basis to prevent shell rot and fungal infection. So therefore = DO NOT REMOVE THE BASKING MATERIAL or the natural lifestyle patterns will be disturbed. However, if the turtle spends too much time on the rock and hardly ever comes off then it could be a sign of a health problem. See your herp vet.

Baby red-eared sliders sleep as much as possible when they are young. In nature, they prefer to sleep on rocks or floating in shallow water.
