Start with a steady rest on a solid table or bench and shoot at the paper plate to see where the bullet is impacting on the target. Yes any gun chambered in .22lr will shoot .22longs and .22shorts. Don't expect them to cycle properly or at all though. So you'll more than likely end up having to cycle each round manually.
