He can, yes. Public opinion has shifted since the time of Edward VIII. It might be a bit awkward to have a supreme head of the Church of England to be a divorcee married to a divorcee, but times have changed, and there is no legal impediment stopping him.

Why did Mary imprison her sister Queen Elizabeth?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Elizabeth was the third in line for the throne after Henry VIII's death. She was a protestant heir to the throne and Mary who was the Catholic monarch before her was afraid that she would attempt to over throw her and place herself on the throne as a Protestant Queen. Mary imprisoned Elizabeth in 1554 because she was thought to have been involved in a Protestant plot against Mary that was lead by Sir Thomas Wyatt. She was released a short time later, I believe it was 8 weeks later, with no charge but was placed under house arrest.

When was Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip's silver wedding Anniversary?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip were married on November 20, 1947, which means their diamond wedding anniversary was celebrated in 2007. Actually, their diamond anniversary should be celebrated be in 2022, which would be the 75th anniversary of their wedding. No one expects realistically that the 86-year-old queen and the 91-year-old Duke of Edinburgh will be available for a celebration then.

Who is the mom of queen elizabeth 2?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Queen Elizabeth I's mother was Anne Boleyn, the second of King Henry VIII's six wives. Henry had killed Anne Boleyn because they were expecting a boy and was mad when he heard it was not a boy and Anne Boleyn was beheaded. After the birth of Elizabeth and the miscarriage of a son, King Henry tired of Anne and began spending his time with other women. In 1536 Elizabeth's mother was beheaded on charges of adultery; thought to have been by fabricated by Henry to make way for a third wife.

After Anne Boleyn's death, Queen Elizabeth I had four stepmothers - Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr.
The mother of Elizabeth I was Anne Boleyn, the 2nd wife of Henry VIII.
