The figure is less than 1% world wide. This is because when the game split League paid its players where Union wanted to remain armature. In the late 1970s and early 80's a number of Union code player moved across to the League code. This was because of the money involved in the game. Union in the mid to late 80's saw many of its top names move and forced through the Regional system to make the Union game more attractive and to start paying its players.

Historically the singing of a countrys national anthem occured first in Wales. This was when Wales played the New Zealand All Blacks who, as a tradition undertook the haka. In response the crowd started to sing their national anthem with the team remaining in formation until it ended. This "tradition" followed on since and was adopted by all rugby nations as a matter of course.

There are six finials stored in the mahogany base, each finial a replica of the team emblems. The winning team finial is screwed onto the trophy lid each year.

Italy - I am unsure as to what the Italian finial is and it does not seem to be mentioned anywhere, and unlike the other nations in the 6 nations their emblem is simply the Italian flag and their nickname the Azzurri meaning the light blues. It however would make a lot of sense if the Italian finial was related to the national emblems, the national animal is the wolf and national plant the olive & oak.
