What started the Iraq War and why are we still there if we have captured Saddam Hussein?
Answer 1
The government says it started because they were a threat to major countries due to their weapons of mass destruction (WMD) however once we invaded their country it was apparent we were all lied to because they possessed no wmds., then the US government had another excuse in which they proclaimed that the country was a safe haven for terrorist organizations such as the Mujaheddin or Osama's alleged terrorist group. I believe the US government had been fooled by at the time president Bush which was trying to carry out his fathers (president Bush senior) agenda which was lost a decade earlier operation dessert storm in the 90s. We couldn't legally invade another country due to the UN's treaties we signed unless they attacked our home land first so the government may have plotted a setup in which involved toppling our trade centers in new york on 9/11/01 and the pentagon bombings then blamed the opposing country for the attack. Honestly the planes could not have possibly brought the buildings down with just gas and cargo, however the us government claims they were passenger jumbo jets which they were also not. The pentagon is too low of a structure to be accurately hit by even the best pilots in the world. The us government sees revenue to be made in the war however they were wrong about that too it put our country in a tremendous amount of debt. Since Obama has been in office we have stopped all ongoing operations and are currently working in bringing all troops home however it can't be done in a short time as we learned in previous conflicts because with a country's security crippled it leaves room for insurgents to take over control.
Answer 2
There is no clear answer as to the causes of the Iraq War, but more on that can be read at the Related Question. Regardless, the point of the Iraq War was not to capture Saddam Hussein; it was merely a side-mission or objective. The main reason for invasion was alleged to be WMDs and when no such weapons were found, the United States defaulted on the idea of creating a decent government. Finally, the United States no longer has an active military presence in Iraq. The last American troops were withdrawn in 2011.
Which US politicians met with Saddam Hussein?
Several major US leaders met with Saddam Hussein including Donald Rumsfeld and Rachel Glaspie. However, these contacts ended in 1991 because of the Persian Gulf War of 1990-1991.
