Saddam Hussein al-Tikriti was Iraq's Fifth President from 1979 until 2003. (Note: al-Tikriti is his last name, not Hussein, which is his father's name, so it is proper to refer to Saddam Hussein as Saddam or al-Tikriti, but not Hussein.) He distinguished himself as a cunning totalitarian monster who ruled Iraq through iron-fisted laws, domestic militancy, and mass persecution of minorities. This is not unlike totalitarian monsters in other countries, who ruled similarly. (like Serbia's Slobodan Milosevic or Argentina's Juan Perón). It is this violence and totalitarianism that made Saddam Hussein virulently disliked.

Yes, he retained his power. The two missions of the Gulf Coalition were to protect Saudi Arabia (Operation Desert Shield) and liberate Kuwait (Operation Desert Storm). Removing Hussein from the Iraqi presidency was never intended or attempted, although after the war some critics argued that it should have been done in 1991.

Saddam Hussein had committed numerous atrocities against the Kurds and Shiites, including a genocide against the Kurds (called the Anfal Campaign). As a result they hated him and wanted to punish him. Unfortunately, they had to wait until 2006 to put him on trial for his crimes.

Not at all. As villains go, Sadaam Hussein was a great one, and his execution by the new pro-Western Iraqi government was celebrated for about fifteen minutes in the US. However, if he had lived the rest of his life in prison, or in hiding, it would not have affected the US at all. His removal from power in Iraq was what affected the US.

The united states broke their way into iraq forcfully and found nothing. i can back this up because George bush himself said;and i quote; ''we broke into iraq because we thought they had mass destruction weapons, did they? no they didnt''. Thats the proof that they didnt have WMD. His own people love him, iraq was one of the most poorest countries in the world but saddam hussein made it one of the richest. because he was stabbed in the back by the kuwait goverment when they sent complaints the U.N to drop the prices of oil, thus cutting iraqs income. this complaint brought much money to kuwait in a disgusting way, thus thus tactic was used to show people that back stabbing isnt the way to go.

Chemical weapons were used in Iraq in the 1970s and 1980s to attack Kurds living in the North of the country as part of an intentional genocide against the Kurdish people. In addition, these weapons were also used by Iraq against the Iranians during the Iran-Iraq War.

George W Bush did not actually kill Saddam personally, he was sentenced to death following a legal case against Saddam for genocide
