Sally Ride
Sally Ride (May 26, 1951 – July 23, 2012) was a NASA astronaut, and was the first American woman in space. She served on investigation panels for both the Challenger and Columbia disasters. Along with her life partner, Tam O'Shaughnessy, she coauthored several children's books about science.

When was the explosion that Sally ride investigated?
Sally Ride investigated the explosion of the Challengerin January 28, 1986. 7 crew members were on board and they all got killed. :( One of those members, Christa McAuliffe, was a teacher, not an astronaut. She was chosen to be America's first private citizen in space. Ride was really sad about that, since some other crew members were Judith Resnik, Dick Scobee, Ronald Mcnair, Ellison Onizuka, and Ride entered the program with them, so she decided to investigate it.
