Upham said nothing to the character of Willie. In German, he told the other German soldiers to leave. Willie tried to appeal to Upham to let him go as well, however Upham pulled the trigger, thus ending Willie's ability to kill more Americans' as he did Captain Miller.

Private Mellish was an ordinary strong man, but in the movie Saving Private Ryan Private Mellish get into a brutal fight with a Nazi Soldier...Private Mellish dies in the process. There are multiple reasons why Private Stanley Mellish died:

1: During the fight with the nazi soldier, Mellish is fist-fighting with the nazi but his mistake was taking out the knife, He gave the himself and the nazi soldier a weapon to battle over, very bad causing both to lose focus on each other.

2: The second reason why Mellish died because he spoke, in the film he says the following : Lets stop Lets stop, Listen to me Listen to me...No'No[repeating] this sentence gave the the nazi soldier a sign of weakness causing him to get the upper hand on Mellish but if Mellish would have used his other hand and turned the knife, he could have cut the Germans face.

3: The third reason for Mellish's death is worring about the friendly soldier dying on the ground and the ammo for the Machine-gun in the window.

4: The LAST reason is the real reason Mellish died and that is Slow-thinking and Slow response

When Captain Miller told Ryan to "earn this," he meant that Ryan (having possibly been saved from death by the actions of the platoon) had a duty to live his life in an upright, moral, and meaningful way.

Ryan is not certain that he has done so, but it is suggested very strongly that he has, out of respect for the bravery and sacrifice of the men whose mission was to bring him home.

Company C (Charlie Company) of the 2nd Ranger Battalion was assigned to Task Force B, which was part of the Provisional Ranger Group formed by both the 2nd and 5th Ranger Battalion units. The Provisional Ranger Group was temporarily attached to the 116th Infantry Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division. Assisting Task Force B in its mission was a platoon of DD Tanks from Company B of the 743rd Tank Battalion. Company C boarded HMS Prince Charles on June 1st, 1944 at Weymouth, England. Task Force B was to land at Charlie Sector (located directly to the west of Dog Green Sector) at 06:33 a.m. along with Company A of the 116th Infantry Regiment, and Company B of the 743rd Tank Battalion. The first platoon (LCA 418) was commanded by Lieutenant William Moody, and the second platoon (LCA 1038) was commanded by Lieutenant Sydney Salomon. The commander of the company, Captain Ralph Goranson, rode with the first platoon. Unable to contact Company A of the 116th by radio, and seeing the beating that the 29th Division was receiving at Dog Green, Captain Goranson ordered his surviving men to proceed up the cliffs. The opening scene takes place in present day when an older Veteran and his family is strolling through the American Cemetery at Collieville sur Mur. Then the scene flashes back to the war when the 29th Infantry Division and the Rangers are making an amphibious landing on the coast of Normandy during the D-Day invasionon 6 June 1944. "Saving Private Ryan" is a fictional story that is partially (and remotely) based upon an event where a paratrooper was ordered to be sent back home because of a death of either his brother or his Mother.
