Since the attacks of September 11, 2001, The United States of America has entered into war in both Afghanistan (October 7, 2001), and Iraq (March 19, 2003). The War in Afghanistan was in direct response to the September 11th attacks on the U.S. Conversely, while there was initial suspicion that the Iraqi Government of Saddam Hussein might have had some connection to the Al-Qaeda terrorists responsible for the 9/11 attacks, the declaration of the war in Iraq was ultimately based on separate issues pertaining the U.N. resolutions and sanctions pertaining to full disclosure and inspections for possible possession, or manufacturing of weapons of mass destruction, and/or the laboratories and components necessary to create such weapons.

As of September 11, 2001, The United States of America was under attack on its own soil, and since the attack came from terrorists with no known permanent base, or country of origin, the U.S. basically declared war on terrorism in general, and terrorist groups, cells and individuals world wide. Investigations and intelligence reports indicated that the Afghanistan based Al-Qaeda, the extremist Sunni Islamist militant group founded by, now deceased, Osama bin Laden, was behind the 9/11 attacks, and the Unites States began military operations to defeat Al-Queda, hunt down Osama bin Laden, and confront any country or group that would harbor terrorists, or in any way support or aid their activities.

The term "hijacked" or "highjacked" means to take over a vehicle, usually an aircraft, by force or threat of violence, and redirect it from its intended route to an alternate destination. In the case of September 11, 2001, investigations have concluded that each of the four planes that crashed (1 and 2 into the North and South Tower of the World Trade Center, 3 into the U.S. Pentagon, and the 4th into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania) were all taken over by terrorists affiliated with Al-Qaeda, the extremist Sunni Islamist militant group founded by, now deceased, Osama bin Laden. After being hijacked, the planes were used as weapons of terrorism, murder, and destruction in an act of war against the United States of America.

I presume you're referring to the 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

There was no particular significance to the date prior to 2001. It's largely coincidence that it happened on a date that can be cast into the same form as the emergency phone number in the US (there's no evidence that the terrorists were aware of the possible connection ahead of time).

So, if it had happened on a different date, it would have happened on a different date. Not a very exciting or particularly informative answer, but there you have it.

The south tower was hit at a much lower spot and the weight above it caused it to collapse.

The U.S. Pentagon is a military instillation in Arlington County, Virginia, serving as the Headquarters for the United States Department of Defense. The World Trade Center was a complex of seven buildings in Lower Manhattan, which is part of the city of New York, in the state of New York. This complex featured a pair of two, 110 story high rise office buildings, often referred to as the "Twin Towers" which housed the offices of many international corporations and financial institutions. The two facilities (Pentagon and WTC) are in separate cities in two different states of the U.S., and were not directly connected to one another, except to be important, and iconic symbols of the United States of America.

Both facilities were attacked on September 11, 2001 with three separate hijacked commercial airliners. The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were both destroyed as a result of the terrorist attack, and the Pentagon was damaged, but has since been repaired. A fourth Airliner was also hijacked on the same day, but crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania due to heroic passenger intervention.

In the United States, September 11 not celebrated. However, it is a day of remembrance and memorial for those that died in the attacks and the recovery after.

I think the best way to commemorate is celebrate the day that many people died and also think about this day (9/11) many people that died didn't deserve to die but the couldn't resist t it so they had to. I love you /11

9-11 has impacted american culture in many ways. The world trade center was pretty much the base communications between the countries. many people died in there and many were bruttally injured. many has been in fear and many have persuaded the military to start a war between u.s and iraq.

There are about 110 floors in the twin towers. The1st plane hit the 101st floor and the second hit somewhere between the 95th and 100th (the plane tilted so it hit more floors) floors.

If you mean "babies" as in infants, then none. The youngest victim was a toddler, a 2 year old girl on Flight 175. Then there were seven other kids who died that day, ranging in age from 3 to 11 years old.
