September 11 Attacks

The Twin Towers (official name World Trade Center) - along with the passengers and crews of the two hijacked jets that were used in the attack - were destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001 by terrorists from the extremist Islamist group al Qaeda, the core element of which was run by Osama bin Laden (before he was killed by U.S. Special Forces soldiers in May of 2011.)

Simultaneously, al Qaeda terrorists also attacked the U.S. Pentagon building with another hijacked jet, killing the passengers and crew along with many military and civilian employees at the Pentagon. The terrorists also hijacked a fourth jet which was headed towards Washington, D.C. before passengers fought back, with the jet crashing in rural Pennslvania, resulting in the deaths of all passengers and crew.

Al Qaeda attacked and destroyed the Twin Towers because they (falsely) believe that the West (i.e., the U.S. and Europe) are the aggressors in a (non-existent) war upon the people and Islamic nations of the Middle East. To them, the Twin Towers, which were home to many U.S.-based and foreign-based financial institutions, as well as numerous other corporations, symbolized the U.S., our economy, and our capitalist system. Likewise, they view the Pentagon as symbolizing the U.S. military.

It sure affected the firefighters who set up headquarters in one of the buildings. They knew a lot about ordinary fires, but this was jet fuel which melted aluminum, causing the building to collapse. Most of them weren't performing dramatic rescues at the moment. They just got clobbered.

One of the engineers who designed the building tried to warn them, but couldn't get through.

Two. One flew into each tower. Also - Another plane flew into the Pentagon building in Arlington, VA. A fourth plane was brought down by the passengers in a field in Pennsylvania.

The passengers aboard the plane rebelled, so the hijacker had to force a landing in Pennsylvania.

The attack of September 11 took place in New York, by the Pentagon. Planes crashed into the Pentagon and killed many people. (I know this because this date is my birthday... I studied it.) :)

The name of those planes that hit the twin towers is the United Airlines and Delta Airlines. The American Airlines hit the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and 1 more United Airlines that crashed in Pennsylvania. This happened on September 11, 2001.

The person who planned the 9-11 attacks( September 11 attacks) is Osama bin Laden. To most people, he is a bad guy. Thanks to the United States Navy Seal team 6. The seal team 6 successfully completed their mission for hunting Osama bin Laden.

The two planes used in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks against the Twin Towers were both Boeing 767 wide-body jetliners (American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airline flight 175)

The two hijacked planes could be flown with the same training due to the commong "Boeing key", which made for much better coordination and easier training for al-Qa'ida.

American forces used a mix of the F-16C, F-15, EF-111, F/A-18, EA-6B (For electronic jamming) , and F-15C for their combat role.

British forces preferred the Harrier for the most part in their combat operations.

In addition to these combat role aircraft, Support role aircraft such as tankers, refuelers , and cargo aircraft were also used in mass by UN and NATO forces.

The event was very well filmed, news crews were rapidly on the scene. The towers did not explode prior to the plane crash.
