All of the JC Higgins Model 20 shotguns were Made by High Standard Manufacturing Just about all the parts should fit from one 12 gauge to anouther 12 gauge. KEEP IN MINDE UNLESS YOU ARE QUALIFIED GUN SMITH YOU SHUOLD NOT BE SWAPING BOLTS BARRELS OR ACTION PARTS OF ANY KINDE... How ever changing the butt stock is somewhat simple task and the butt stock from both 12 and 16 gauge will fit. Make sure that both are JC Higgins 583 20 . The JC Higgins Model 20 was produced from 1947 to 1961 It Was made in 12 gauge and 16 gauge it was offered with vent rib power pack choke and latter with polychokes If you have further quetions E mail Me Charlie

Remove butt plate { 2 screws }. Inside the stock is a drilled hole. At the very end of the hole there is a flat head screw that holds the assembly to the gun. Remove screw. { you will need a super long flat head screwdriver }. You will also need to knock out the 2 pins {found on the middle part of the gun, underneath the area where the shells are loaded } to release the assembly. I would not advise taking this apart though, it can be tough getting it back together.

A smoothbore is cheaper and works just as well when using regular shot. A rifled shotgun barrel only helps if you are going to be firing slugs, but if you are it improves performance considerably, giving the slug near-rifle accuracy. If you can afford it and plan to be using slugs the rifled barrel can be well worth it and gives you much more versitility.

it is not safe to fire 16 gauge shell in anything but a 16 gauge.No shells will interchange with other gauge guns since a 16 gauge shell would fit in a 12 gauge chamber, I would think you can do this.

The Springfield 67D was made by Stevens/Savage and is the same as the model under the Stevens name. Value always depends on condition, but in the case of this model, there is little difference between a used gun with normal wear vs a near new gun. Value is between $100 and $200.

Usually this shotgun will sell for $100 -$150 depending on condition and location. The 550B utilizes a single action bar as oppossed to the double action bars that are standard on all Mossberg pump shotguns since sometime in the mid 1980s, I believe. This feature make the older style guns useful, but much less desirable. The 16 gauge is in the same category; useful but much less desirable.
