actually no shotgun is good for a beginner. the shotgun has loads of power in it and would scare the living hell out of anyone who hasn't even used a handgun. buy a small gun first and start to get used to the sound and power because a shotgun is 10x that. take my advice and after you think your ready go out and see whatever shotgun u like the most have fun and be safe. peace out.

This is a difficult question - ask 10 people and you'll get 10 answers. For clay trap and double clays, it's hard to beat a quality over and under or a side by side 12 guage. For upland game birds, a solid pump or semi automatic from any number of manufacturers will work. If your budget allows only one shotgun, a 12 guage semi-auto that shoots a 2 3/4 shell will work for clays and most game birds. My personal preference is for the Remington 1100. They have been around for years and replacement parts are easy to find.

If you have a semi-new shotgun, you can pickup the gun buyers guide from borders or a local book store. If your talking an antique shotgun, then they may have books for that, but I have not looked into it before.

Parts for these shotguns are hard to find. EAA Corp carries parts for Baikal shotguns. A good gunsmith might also be able to help make some parts.

If its in good condition and the barrel has not been cut or the stock shortened, it worth between 150 and 300. Obviously the high side would be a gun in the 90% range in terms of metal and wood condition and finish.

Well since sawed off shot guns are illegal in the US I wouldn't imagine the person you buy it from will check I'd. To buy a regular shot gun you have to be 18 though.
