Yes it will shoot slugs and buckshot, some use them as a deer gun.

I need more info,but i will take a shot at it lol. These guns were made under many names most would have a brand name and the name volunteer . If you have one that has only the volunteer name they are the most rare and getting very hard to come by. If your gun is in working shape and looks fair and is the one with volunteer only on it it could bring up to 2500.00 to the right collector.

In very good condition, it might be worth a couple of hundred to someone. A lot of shotgunners still prefer "doubles", and the Sears retailed shotguns with the model prefix "101.7" were made by Stevens - a highly respected manufacturer.

KD stands for damascus barrel I do not know what the Y stands for. You should not fire the gun with a damascus barrel because it is weaker and might explode with modern shells

This answer will be for more than a SKB 500. On any over/under or side by side there will be differences in the mechanism that makes them work. Therefore, place a cartridge in a barrel and in a safe place, pull the trigger. If the cartridge goes off, the feel the barrels and note which is warm. Note where the selector switch is and now you know which barrel is fired when the selector switch is in that position. In the other position, the opposite is true. If when you pull the trigger and the cartridge does not go off, you know that the selector switch is set for the barrel without the round in it. I'd check it with the above method just to make sure.

Depends, if you are hunting doves or small upland game bird an under over shotgun or side by side will work, although you will not want to get it dirty. You will not want to use it for deer or turkey when you are on the ground or getting down and dirty. For that I would recommend a good Remington 870 pump or semi. If you are going goose or duck I would recommend getting the shotgun in a 3" or 3 1/2" round in 12 gauge so you can pack a good punch. For goose I use Winchester Blind Side 3 1/2". If any of this helps.

Bettinsoli make them. There are a very nice gun. Its rare to find them on the market as they werent mass produced, snap it up while you can.

In short, it is a barrel designed to fire slugs. Some are smooth bore which are intended to shoot rifled slugs or buckshot, while others are rifled and intended for shooting sabot slugs only.

Depends on the buyer really. You may find someone that feels having the Ducks Unlimited brand associated with it gives the gun a higher monetary value. Mostly though, the gun is not worth more than a regular 1187. So, I say $300 - $600. Try shopping it around to gun dealers in your area (maybe even a pawnshop if you're wanting a laugh), doing so will give you a better idea the "real" monetary value.
