By taking the barrel of the stock and looking where your barrel meet the firing pins, if you are lucky you will see a number. I have found in my research some of these little treasures did not have a heavy stamped number. Don't get fooled, these numbers are not Item numbers, This was actually a family genealogy number which kept track of the families during WW1. Some of this information has been lost throughout history, However this Inexpensive, cheaply made, Not worth much, Haaaaha, My treasure still bares my Great G Grandfather's marks of Valor as he pushed through Sicily to make sure my Grandpa a boy at that time was on the Safe boat to America, while Germany was invading Italy. Awesome gun saved lives. And the tails of the way they packed those shells. I've seen it fired once when I was little NO GIRL GUN. All this depends on the country and state laws, but in most of places civilians are allowed to fire AIRSOFT GUNS which you can get without filling a permission form. It is also a good way to practice aiming and shooting.

NOTE: Higher caliber pistols and rifles should be fired at a shooting range. You need a special permission to carry on this type of weaponry.

the mossberg 185 does not have a serial number, it is out of the time period where serial numbers were not forced to be used

I have a 12 gauge savage 180-D shotgun but it has no clip, and I can't find much about this gun. If anybody could tell me how or where to get a clip, it would greatly help.

No they did not. Cooey only made single shot shotguns starting in 1948. For awhile, back in the late 30's, they assembled shotguns for Iver Johnson in Canada.

It takes the same stock as the other Mossberg guns, it's just a matter of choosing wood or synthetic, plain finish or painted, and some like the 20ga or 410 are shorter. You can buy from Mossberg directly, some gun sites, plus there are aftermarket stocks available too. Ebay has both new and used, many people buy a new wood gun, then buy a synthetic trim for it and sell the wood on ebay. You can paint a wood one black if you're just after the color. The syn is nicer looking (to most), slightly lighter and has more space inside for storing goodies like survival stuff or tools etc.
