I had a mimosa that made it's home behind my gas meter. At first I thought the lil tree was sooo cute. I saw that there could be a problem so I just cut it down to the ground. The next year when spring was upon the yard I came out for my first yard work and found that the trunk had grown twice the size and my meter was now moving away from the house. So I asked friends and took care of the lil home wrecker. Take out your saw and cut it down to a size where you can still get a good hold on it above the ground. Get out your drill and drill as many holes as you feel the undesired vegetation deserves. This also works as a wonderful stress reliever I found. Next go to the hardware store and get Root Rotter. There are many brands but I think they all pretty well do the same job. Follow the directions and fill in the holes you drilled into the pesky lil *&$#@ with the chemical! I have heard driving nails into it also may kill it. I used both. Leave it alone and kick it every time you cut the grass. When you see that it's good an rotted it will lift right up out of the ground. DO NOT try to replant anything in the area until the following grow season, it will die.

How do you prune a Lavatera plant?
Perennial lavateras are notoriously short-lived, and pruning them properly can extend their lives.
Immediately after flowering cut back all the flowering stems to prevent the plant setting seed. Setting seed tends to weaken the plant and may reduce its lifespan. This also reduces wind-rock in the winter. Water it with a balanced fertiliser.
In early spring cut the branches back to a foot from the ground and remove any dead branches, scatter a granular fertiliser around it, rake it in and give it a thorough watering. These fertilisers last a whole season. Scatter some slug pellets around it, as slugs and snails love the new shoots.
When you prune the plant take some cuttings of non-flowering stems 3-4 inches long - they root very easily.
If you want to have especially large flowers, you can cut back the flowering stems a little in early June, but don't overdo it.

I did some digging and found that you MAY be talking about a Citrus Weevil... there are also Citrus Root Weevils which are sometimes white with black stripes... they are all pretty much the same. I saw them too and was wondering if they were harmful. At first ,I thought they were kind of cute and interesting... I mean... how often do you see a WHITE bug? Then I found they are the nasty little jerks responsible for munching on my roses!! I had been WONDERING what was chewing the leaves on my plants! OH they also LOVE money trees!! All the roots of my African violets... HISTORY!! I had had those violets for the better part of 5 years too!! I am going to try my trusty soap spray to repel them... mix 1 tablespoon dish soap in 2 cups warm water. Hopefully that'll work! You gotta do it often because as soon as it rains, it washes away... which is pretty much every afternoon as of late. GOOD LUCK!!
About how far is the distance of allelopathic plants from one another?
The length of the root is the distance of allelopathic plants from one another. The plants in question -- aster, black walnut, broccoli, forsythia, garlic mustard, goldenrod, juniper, Kentucky bluegrass, knapweed, perennial rye, purple loosestrife, sugar maple, sunflower -- may release toxins -- of which the most famous is the black walnut tree's juglone -- to control or inhibit the growth of other vegetation. Their effects -- which may be minimized by well-aerated, well-drained soils -- will be strongest as far across and down as the root system extends for herbaceous plants and the drip line for woody plants.
