Virtually nothing outside of a 12 gauge shotgun will keep a skunk from entering your crawlspace if there is an opening that it can get through. The only way to keep them out is to close up all openings that they can get through.

Skunks are actually very beneficial as they eat rodents which can be pests. They're pretty too. Just don't try to pet them.

You need to wash clothing, or objects including yourself as soon as possible. You can use house hold cleaners and laundry detergent on clothing or the objects. White vinegar can be used as well as hydrogen peroxide. The ver also has a special soap you can use.

To get skunk smell out of clothes you need to keep in mind that skunk spray leaves an oily residue which is what makes it so hard to get rid of.

If the clothing came into direct contact with spray (straight from the skunk, rubbed off a sprayed dog, etc) then the oil needs to be broken down to remove the smell. Launder them with a degreasing detergent (or detergent with a degreaser added). Some solutions list hydrogen peroxide (which can bleach things) as a possibility, but for clothing you might want to try soaking in the following:

1 Liter White Vinegar

1/4c Baking Soda

1 Tsp dish soap

The dish soap will help break down the skunk film, while the vinegar and baking soda will help neutralize the odor. After soaking them, run them through the washing machine using cold or cool water.

If instead your clothing merely picked up the odors out of the air (no direct contact with the skunk's spray), or if they are materials that are not readily laundered, then you can rent an ozone generator which will help neutralize the odor. Ozone reacts with many different scent molecules and breaks them down - this is the same effect it has on skunk odor. If you have a number of items that have leftover skunk smell on them, this can be an effective way to room odor from them at one time.

Drink more water. Stay hydrated and the problem should correct itself, if it doesn't or you are still concerned you should consult your medical professional. Sitting for extented periods, drinking too much caffine and not enough water is probably the cause.

Give your lawn a couple of Milky Spore treatments to control Japanese beetle grubs and you should see a drop-off in skunk grubbing. Steer clear of insecticide-based grub treatments. Not only are they broadly toxic, but treatments have to be repeated annually. The Milky Spore organism takes a a season to get established in your lawn, during which time you can use Japanese beetle bait-traps (at some distance from your flower beds), but once it kicks in you'll be grub and beetle-free for over ten years.

Here is a great method: 1 Quart of 3 percent Hydrogen Peroxide

1/4 Cup Baking Soda

1 Teaspoon of Dish Soap (breaks up the oils in the skunk spray... the baking soda and peroxide take care of the smell).

This will fizz when mixed so use it right away. It will explode if you try to store it, so make only what you will use. You can always make more if you need it. Use like a shampoo. Work into the dog's coat thouroughly, but be careful of the dog's eyes. Use a wash cloth around the eyes. Rise thouroughly. This works great and it is really cheap to make. One application de-skunked a dog hit at point blank range!!! Jerry

Most skunks are of two colors. This is usually black and white, but can be light brown and white or just white. The striped skunk is a black color with a white stripe going from the nose down to the tip of the tail along the back.Some have twin stripes that parallel down the back to the tip of the tail.
